Full Job Description
Main Responsibilities

  • ensure compliance with applicable regulations, safety of associates, and HDI corporate requirements.
  • Ensures and maintains all necessary environmental permits for regulatory compliance.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for overseeing facilities for compliance with Environmental and OHSA regulations and interpretations.
  • Create or modify training resources for new and changing regulations or corporate requirements.
  • Acts as an Emergency Coordinator and/or is part of the Emergency Response Team.
  • Responsible for on-call and after hour compliance and safety related needs.
  • Compiles, prepares, and submits facility required regulatory reports.
  • Performs internal audits to verify compliance with requirements and expectations. Is the point of contact for external audits and regulatory agencies.
  • Oversees the completion of inspections, which include weekly JHSC inspections, waste inspections, environmental compliance inspections, and corporate compliance inspections according to Heroux-Devtek corporate requirements.
  • Oversees the management of the document control records related to EHS documents.
  • Investigates accidents, incidents, near misses, related to EHS events to determine root cause and provide recommendations for improvements and corrective actions.
  • Ensure that EHS incident investigations and reports are prepared in a timely manner with an emphasis on identifying root causes and ensuring effective closure of corrective actions.
  • Track and control inventory of safety equipment and PPE on site to ensure that proper resources are available when needed.
  • Approves waste vendors for managing waste on behalf of the facility.
  • Manages waste trends, projections, budgets, purchasing, and reconciliation cost in relation to waste generated at the site.
  • Works on developing communication and culture at the facility via meetings, newsletters, and other activities related to EHS.
  • Support and develop initiatives to improve the ecological footprint of operations, which includes GHG reductions, water conservations, waste minimization, pollution prevention, etc.
  • Actively participate in Global EHS monthly meetings and periodic meetings of HDI sites.
  • Ensure timely, effective, and collaborative communications on environmental, health, and safety issues with the HDI corporate EHS team.


Home office will be in Kitchener with travel to Cambridge (weekly) and Scarborough (weekly) regularly with the ability to change based off needs.

QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS

  • Bachelor's Degree in environment occupational or safety sciences, industrial, safety management, public health, HR, or related degree program.
  • 5-10 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Proven knowledge of developing and administering comprehensive EHS programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental, health and safety guidelines and practices.
  • Occasional out of country travel required.


SKILLS

  • Extensive knowledge of OHSA, Environmental and other governmental regulations and laws in Ontario.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in MS Office.


Salary range of $80,000-$97,000 per year based of experience
