HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER

The Fresh Air Fund is a youth development organization providing transformative outdoor experiences, at no cost, for New York City children from underserved communities. At six sleepaway camps in New York's Mid-Hudson Valley, children have new experiences, learn new skills and gain new perspectives. Youth also participate in year-round leadership, career exploration and educational programs.

The Fresh Air Fund (The Fund) seeks an experienced Human Resources Manager to manage the daily functions of its Human Resources (HR) department.

Position Summary

As the HR Department is a department of one, this role is both operational and strategic. The HR Manager is responsible for ensuring the effective day-to-day operations of the HR Department. They are also an integral part of Fresh Air's performance and talent management, compliance, risk management, and strategic work. The HR Manager serves on Fresh Air's leadership team.

This position is full-time, based in our New York City office and currently requires three days a week in the office. The Fresh Air Fund offices are open and available all week, and all employees are permitted and encouraged to come to the office to work. The Fund may modify its remote work policy generally or with respect to any position at any time. This role reports to the Chief Legal Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the talent acquisition and recruitment processes
  • Work with ADP and Fresh Air's Payroll Department to administer employee compensation and benefit plans
  • Conduct employee onboarding and offboarding, including working with Fresh Air's IT, Office Management, Communications and Training Departments
  • Support employees with various HR-related topics such as leaves and compensation, and resolve any issues that may arise
  • Work with Fresh Air's Director of Culture and Leaning on performance management, training and strategic initiatives
  • Develop and implement HR policies and practices in conjunction with Fresh Air's Chief Legal Officer
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal employment laws with support from Fresh Air's Chief Legal Officer
  • Gather and analyze data with useful HR metrics, like time to hire and employee turnover rates
  • Enhance employee job satisfaction by resolving issues promptly
  • Maintain employee records
  • Help shape organizational culture
  • Stay up-to-date on HR trends and best practices to ensure Fresh Air remains competitive in attracting and retaining top talent
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned


Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (in human resources or related field preferred but not required)
  • At least three years prior experience as an HR Manager or in a similar role
  • Knowledge and understanding of HR practices, principles and legal requirements
  • Understanding of general human resources policies and procedures
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Aptitude in problem-solving
  • Excellent data analysis skills, with the ability to collect and analyze HR data to inform decisions
  • Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now or other PEO system preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with WorkBright or other HR compliance software preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with JazzHR or other recruiting software preferred but not required
  • Interest in joining a youth development organization and supporting its mission and vision

Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $95,000-$105,000, commensurate with experience. The Fresh Air Fund offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts, commuter benefits, and employer and employee retirement contribution plans.
