Job Description:

Host, What’s News

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a dynamic Host for What's News, one of our largest and most crucial franchises. You will be the face, voice, and driving personality behind the What's News brand. In this role, you will be the ultimate go-to guide for new audiences trying to navigate a noisy, high-volume news cycle across platforms, including the franchise newsletter.

The ideal candidate is a total news junkie with a sharp, conversational writing style and a passion for stepping out from behind the byline to connect with readers directly—extending your presence far beyond the inbox to span vertical video on social media, audio products, and in-person live events.

This role is based in New York.

You will:

  • Serve as the lead steward and recognizable host for the What's News brand, actively growing its footprint and cultivating a loyal, habit-driven community of readers and viewers.

  • Act as the ultimate news navigator for audiences, distilling complex global business, finance, and geopolitical stories into clear, engaging, and highly digestible takeaways.

  • Write and curate the daily What's News newsletter, infusing it with a distinct, approachable, and conversational authority that introduces new audiences to WSJ journalism.

  • Regularly host reporter-to-camera vertical videos, audio segments, and social media dispatches in close collaboration with the audio, social and Talent Lab and video teams.

  • Foster two-way relationships with our audience by hosting Live Q&As, and appearing at WSJ events.

  • Partner closely with audience teams to relentlessly experiment with new ways to turn serendipitous, top-of-funnel readers into loyal, paying WSJ subscribers through your personal brand.

You have:

  • 7+ years of experience in a fast-paced digital newsroom, with a deep understanding of what modern audiences want and need from a daily news product.

  • An exceptional, charismatic, and voice-driven communication style that makes complex news feel accessible and highly engaging across both text and multimedia.

  • Proven on-camera and audio experience, with a natural ability to host, interview, and translate text-based journalism into compelling multimedia formats.

  • A true "news junkie" mentality—you love following the daily news cycle and instinctively know how to distill it down to its most important takeaways.

  • A relationship-first mindset, eager to treat your audience as a vibrant, interactive community.

  • A self-starter attitude, comfortable experimenting with new ways to reach readers and build a personal brand alongside the WSJ brand.
