WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY

As an Health Scientist (Informatics) , you will use your knowledge and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by:

• Providing expert scientific advice, consultation and leadership in designing, coordinating and maintaining public health informatics project goals, objectives and priorities within a CIO and/or CDC/ATSDR and in the general public health community.
• Managing projects involved with public health informatics and serves as a subject matter expert in the design and implementation of IT systems integrating epidemiologic and other information from a scientific perspective.
• Designing, overseeing, implementing, and conducting scientific surveys/studies or projects to identify and solve health system related problems in the general public health community.
• Implementing scientific policies and procedures on informatics practices and principles.
• Serving as an expert, providing scientific advice and consultation on solutions to critical problems that require creating new approaches, and standards to be used within the applicable CIO.
• Collaborating with and provides expert advice to all organizational levels with the agency, as well as with various state health agencies, and partner organizations.

Basic Qualifications:

Degree: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year of specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing at least ALL of the following:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Designing, developing, and maintaining a relational database or data system (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or equivalent) supporting public health inspection programs, regulatory compliance tracking, or a similar operational environment.
• Applying database management, data governance, and software development standards to design and maintain at least one reporting system.
• Providing technical consultation to public health professionals, program managers, IT teams, or other stakeholders on at least two of the following: database architecture, system troubleshooting, data integrity, or development of an AI-assisted or automation tool to improve operational efficiency.
• Serving in a defined role (e.g., project lead, technical lead, or core team member) on at least one technology modernization initiative - such as cloud platform implementation, legacy system migration, systems integration, or adoption of an emerging technology.
• Collaborating with stakeholders from at least two distinct functional areas (e.g., program, IT, regulatory) to translate requirements into a documented technical solution, communicate technical information to non-technical audiences, and manage at least one project with defined milestones or deliverables supporting a mission-critical objective.

If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
