Lead enterprise safety strategy for a national engineering and consulting organization.
Kleinfelder is seeking a Health & Safety Director to lead, strengthen, and continuously improve our enterprise-wide safety program. This highly visible leadership role is ideal for an experienced H&S executive who can set strategy, influence culture, partner with senior leaders, and advance practical, data-informed safety solutions across a complex professional services, engineering, consulting, and field-services environment.
What You’ll Do
- Lead Kleinfelder’s enterprise Health & Safety strategy, including a forward-looking roadmap that improves safety performance, strengthens accountability, and supports continuous improvement.
- Use H&S data, field insight, and operational trends to identify risks, prioritize solutions, and promote practical prevention strategies.
- Build safety stewardship across the company through visible leadership, clear communication, and consistent employee engagement.
- Own the H&S Strategic Plan and monitor progress against safety improvement priorities, safety metrics, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Partner with executive leadership, operations, and project teams to integrate health and safety into business decisions, project planning, and high-risk work.
- Lead company-wide H&S programs, including laboratory safety, radiation safety, subcontractor prequalification, training, client prequalification, and incident response.
- Respond to incidents, lead investigations, recommend corrective actions, and share lessons learned to prevent recurrence.
- Lead, develop, and motivate a high-performing team of H&S professionals who strengthen employee engagement and reinforce Kleinfelder’s culture of safety.

You bring sound judgment, practical problem-solving, strong regulatory knowledge, and the ability to influence leaders and employees across a decentralized organization.
- Extensive experience leading occupational health and safety programs in a professional services, consulting, engineering, construction, environmental, or field-services environment.
- Demonstrated ability to set strategy, manage enterprise programs, lead teams, and influence senior leaders and operational stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state health and safety regulations, regulatory reporting requirements, incident management, and risk mitigation practices.
- Ability to use data, field insight, and operational judgment to identify trends, evaluate risk, and drive practical safety improvements.
- Experience managing budgets, resources, program priorities, and third-party systems or prequalification processes.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build trust, reinforce accountability, and engage employees at all levels in a strong safety culture.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related field.
- 15 years of progressive experience in occupational health and safety.
- 10 years of experience in a leadership or management role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Executive-level or enterprise safety leadership experience at an AEC firm.
- Experience supporting distributed teams, field operations, and project-based delivery environments.
- Professional certification in occupational health and safety or a related discipline, such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or equivalent.
- Experience with client prequalification systems, subcontractor safety programs, and insurance or claims-related safety metrics.
