How you make a differenceOur Health Information Director is a qualified clerical person, responsible and accountable for the maintenance of health records. In this capacity, organizes the medical record department, maintains a system of records concerning patient diagnosis, treatment, admissions, discharges and transfers related to daily patient changes. Organizes duties for medical record clerks and provides coverage for all units, and interacts with the medical staff to provide care for the patient.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure the confidentiality, accuracy, and completeness of medical records, including filing, auditing, and managing release-of-information requests.
- Establish and maintain systems for medical record tracking, completion, and review, including preparation for audits and accreditation (e.g., NCCHC, ACA).
- Train, evaluate, and organize coverage for medical records staff while performing staff duties as needed.
- Provide timely and accurate reports to the Director of Nursing (DON) or Health Services Administrator (HSA) and assist with reviewing death records.
- Support facility operations by attending meetings, posting orders (as applicable), and preparing for site audits or inspections.
Qualifications & RequirementsEducation
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Experience
- One (1) or more years experience in an established medical record system preferred or training in an accredited medical record program.
