Full Job Description
Position Overview:

The Head of Professional Lines is accountable for the leadership, direction, and operational excellence of the Professional Lines claims portfolio within the Property & Casualty segment. This critical role oversees five direct reports who manage claims in Allied Health, Cyber, Lawyers & Accountants Errors and Omissions, and Architects & Engineers. The Head of Professional Lines is responsible for shaping claims handling strategies, supporting customer experience, and ensuring compliance and efficiency across all Professional Lines. The role actively partners with internal stakeholders, brokers, and clients to deliver best-in-class claims service while safeguarding the company's reputation and financial strength.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of five professional lines claims managers, fostering a culture of collaboration, integrity, and excellence.
  • Oversee claims management for Allied Health, Cyber, Lawyers & Accountants E&O, and Architects & Engineers portfolios, ensuring consistent handling of complex and high-value claims.
  • Develop and implement claims strategies tailored to each line of business, aligning with company objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor claims trends, portfolio performance, and emerging risks; provide actionable insights to executive leadership and underwriting to support risk management decisions.
  • Ensure rigorous application of reserving, loss cost management, and timely resolution practices for all claims.
  • Serve as escalation point for significant, sensitive, or complex claims, including litigation oversight and settlement negotiations.
  • Champion continuous improvement in claims processes, leveraging technology and best practices to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, reinsurers, clients, legal counsel, and service providers to support collaborative problem-solving and service delivery.
  • Keep abreast of legislative, regulatory, and market developments impacting Professional Lines and adapt processes as needed.
  • Prepare and present regular reports and analyses on Professional Lines claims performance, issues, and trends to senior management.
  • Contribute to department budget management and resource planning for the Professional Lines segment.
  • Ensure all claims activities adhere to company policies, industry standards, and relevant legal/regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (JD, MBA, or related field) preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years' Property & Casualty claims experience with deep expertise in professional lines (Allied Health, Cyber, E&O, Architects & Engineers).
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and prior responsibility for managing direct reports.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of professional lines liability, claims processes, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills, with proven ability to manage complex, high-exposure claims and litigation.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in claims management systems and MS Office; familiarity with digital claims tools or transformation initiatives advantageous.
