GSE Head of Multifamily Agency Closing

The GSE Multifamily platform is responsible for originating, underwriting, closing, delivering, and servicing multifamily transactions across both Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac programs. The loan closing function is central to execution quality, legal documentation, agency compliance, funding certainty, and borrower experience. The Head of Multifamily Agency Closing will serve as a senior transaction execution leader and legal-documentation resource across the platform.

Role Overview

This position offers the opportunity to serve as a senior agency loan closing professional within a newly formed dual-agency lending platform. The Head of Multifamily Agency Closing will manage complex Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac multifamily loan closings from commitment through delivery, coordinate legal and diligence workstreams, resolve closing issues, and help establish scalable closing processes, controls, and best practices. The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 15 years of legal and loan closing experience, with deep familiarity with agency multifamily execution, loan documentation, title, survey, organizational documents, third-party reports, and closing mechanics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage agency multifamily loan closings from application, underwriting handoff, and commitment through funding, delivery, and post-closing follow-up
  • Coordinate closely with internal counsel, outside counsel, borrowers, borrower's counsel, title companies, surveyors, consultants, agencies, underwriters, originators, capital markets, servicing, insurance, asset management, and operations teams
  • Review, negotiate, and manage closing documentation, including loan agreements, notes, security instruments, guaranties, assignments, UCC filings, certificates, opinions, organizational documents, title policies, surveys, insurance materials, and related diligence
  • Identify, escalate, and resolve legal, documentation, diligence, title, survey, insurance, organizational, authority, and closing-condition issues in a practical and timely manner
  • Ensure transactions are closed in accordance with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac requirements, internal credit approvals, delegated authority, compliance standards, and platform execution procedures
  • Maintain comprehensive closing checklists, status trackers, open-item lists, documentation logs, and post-closing follow-up items for each transaction
  • Partner with underwriting and originations to confirm that approved deal terms, credit conditions, loan sizing, borrower structure, collateral requirements, and agency-specific requirements are accurately reflected in closing documents
  • Review third-party work product and closing deliverables for completeness, consistency, and alignment with transaction structure and agency requirements
  • Drive closing calls, manage issue lists, coordinate timing, and keep all parties aligned on required deliverables, funding milestones, and execution deadlines
  • Support loan delivery, document custody, post-closing trailing documents, final title policies, recorded instruments, collateral files, and audit-ready file completion
  • Serve as a senior resource to junior closers and transaction team members, helping develop closing discipline, standard procedures, templates, and quality control practices
  • Contribute to the development of scalable closing workflows, reporting tools, internal controls, escalation protocols, and best practices as the agency lending platform grows
  • Take on additional execution, process, and leadership responsibilities as the platform evolves

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 15 years of legal and loan closing experience required, preferably with significant multifamily agency lending experience
  • Prior experience closing Fannie Mae DUS and/or Freddie Mac Optigo multifamily loans strongly preferred
  • Deep knowledge of commercial real estate loan documentation, title and survey review, borrower organizational structures, legal opinions, authority documents, insurance requirements, and closing mechanics
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex transactions simultaneously while maintaining execution discipline, accuracy, and responsiveness
  • Strong understanding of agency closing requirements, lender counsel processes, delivery requirements, post-closing obligations, and audit-ready file standards
  • Experience working directly with borrowers, borrower's counsel, outside counsel, title companies, agencies, internal credit teams, servicing, and capital markets professionals
  • Bachelor's degree required; J.D., paralegal background, or equivalent legal-documentation experience preferred

Pay Range (Depending upon relatable skills and experience): $150,000 - $250,000
