The Role

Amperity is looking for a Head of Legal to lead the legal function and serve as a trusted advisor to our executive team and business leaders.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will set the legal strategy and operating model for the company while staying close enough to the work to understand where risk, friction, and opportunity actually exist. You'll advise on the issues that matter most to the business-from complex enterprise transactions and product development to privacy, AI, employment, corporate matters, partnerships, and strategic decisions.

In addition, you will establish a modern, speed-oriented, and commercially aligned legal operating model centered around an AI-first strategy. Rather than treating AI as a trial or supplemental tool, you will embed it directly into daily legal operations to streamline research and contract review, uncover key insights and risks, capture institutional knowledge, automate routine tasks, and maximize the impact of a lean team.

Success isn't measured by how much work Legal touches. It's measured by whether Amperity can make better decisions, move faster with appropriate risk, and scale without Legal becoming a bottleneck.
Interesting Problems

• Make contracting faster and more predictable. Set clear review standards, templates, fallback positions, approval rights, and escalation paths. Work with Sales, Finance, Security, Product, and Services to address delays within Amperity's control.
• Build an AI-first legal workflow. Use AI where appropriate for research, initial review, drafting, and knowledge retrieval while maintaining confidentiality, accuracy, and legal judgment.
• Help teams make informed decisions. Explain material risks and tradeoffs clearly, including when the available information is incomplete.
• Turn legal work into business insight. Identify patterns in customer negotiations, contractual commitments, disputes, and regulatory changes that should inform product and company decisions.
• Scale the function deliberately. Decide what should be handled by the team, supported by outside counsel, automated, or made available through self-service resources.

Success Measures

In your first year, you will:

• Earn the trust of executives and business leaders as an advisor who provides clear recommendations and helps decisions move forward.
• Improve the speed and predictability of commercial contracting while maintaining appropriate protections.
• Establish a legal operating model with clear ownership, approval standards, playbooks, and escalation paths.
• Put AI-enabled workflows into regular use and shown where they improve the team's capacity, consistency, or quality.
• Improve visibility into material legal risks, contractual obligations, recurring negotiation issues, and sources of delay.

About You

• You have a JD and are an active member in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar.
• You have led legal work in an enterprise technology, SaaS, cloud, data, or AI business, including complex commercial transactions.
• You can advise senior leaders across a broad range of matters, make practical recommendations, and recognize when specialist expertise is needed.
• You have built or improved legal processes that help a business operate at scale.
• You use AI in your own work and can identify where it improves legal workflows, alongside the controls those workflows require.
• You communicate clearly, work effectively across functions, and pair candid advice with ownership of business outcomes.

Amperity's work model operates on four in-office days each week and one designated remote workday on Wednesdays. We value the collaboration, connection, and learning that come from working together in person.
Compensation

Base Salary: $234,000-$322,000. Individual compensation within this range will depend on several factors, including your skills, experience, education/training, geographic location and the level at which you join. We also consider internal equity, market conditions, and overall business needs.

Cash Incentives: Cash incentives are also available.

Stock Options: The opportunity for ownership is an exciting part of Amperity's total compensation package. Every employee at Amperity receives a new-hire equity grant, commensurate with the scope of their position.
