Full Job Description
The role

This is a founding-caliber finance role, reporting directly to the CEO. You'll own the finance function end-to-end: FP&A, accounting and controllership, and capital strategy - at an inflection point of both opportunity and complexity for our fast-growing company.

The job is to build the systems that give leadership a clear, unified view across the combined business, and to be the person the CEO and board turn to for the numbers behind every major decision. That means starting from where the systems actually are, not where you'd like them to be.

Finance is the focus, but you won't be pigeon-holed. As Berry Street scales, this scope scales with it.
What you'll do
  • Own financial planning & analysis: build and maintain the models, forecasts, and budgets that translate operational reality into a clear picture of the business
  • Run accounting and controllership - close process, AP/AR, cash management, GAAP compliance, and audit readiness
  • Build and own board and investor reporting - the decks, packages, and narrative behind the numbers, in close partnership with our data and operational teams and the CEO
  • Stand up cross-entity financial infrastructure that gives leadership real visibility across both sides of the business post-acquisition
  • Own unit economics and margin analysis across patient acquisition, clinical delivery, and payer contracts - and translate that into recommendations leadership can act on
  • Partner with the CEO on capital allocation, fundraising, and strategic decisions
  • Build and lead a small finance team as the function scales
  • Establish financial controls and risk management appropriate for a multi-entity healthcare business

Requirements

An AI operator. You live in Claude Code or Codex. You're curious about what's possible, not just what's in the job description.

Finance depth. 6+ years in investment banking, private/growth equity, consulting, or an operator finance role at a high-growth startup. You know what rigorous looks like and you've built that muscle.

Startup or high-growth experience. You've worked in a fast-moving, resource-constrained environment before - ideally Series B-D - and you know how to build financial infrastructure from a less-than-perfect starting point. You're not waiting for clean systems.

Exceptional analytical skills. You understand operating models and can build and stress-test financial models from scratch. You don't need a template to start.

An ownership mindset. You don't wait to be handed a fully-scoped project. You see what the business needs - a model, a process, a hire - and you build it. You flag problems early and follow through.

Comfortable in the room. You can translate between operational reality and what the board or investors need to hear. You push back when the numbers say something leadership doesn't want to hear, and you do it clearly.

Team-builder instincts. You've hired and managed people before, or you're ready to for the first time. You think about how to build a finance function, not just do the work yourself.

Comfort with complexity. You're not fazed by a business with more than one entity, more than one P&L, or systems that don't talk to each other yet. You make it legible.
