Employment Type: Full Time
Position Description: If you're passionate about transforming complex spatial data into meaningful insights and cutting edge solutions, this role is for you. As a GIS Developer, you'll join a team that values innovation, collaboration, and craftsmanship in geospatial technology. You'll work with modern GIS tools, automate data workflows, and build applications that support real world missions across diverse domains. This role offers the opportunity to grow your technical expertise, influence geospatial strategy, and see your work make a tangible impact. Whether you thrive on solving technical challenges, optimizing spatial data systems, or developing intuitive mapping applications, we want you on our team.
This position is located in our Lafayette, LA office; however, a hybrid working model is acceptable.
Due to the nature of government work, US citizenship is required.
Your future duties and responsibilities: As a GIS Developer, you will design, implement, and maintain GIS enabled solutions that support enterprise missions and analytics. You will collaborate closely with data engineers, analysts, and project stakeholders to understand needs, translate them into technical designs, and develop geospatial systems using ESRI technologies, FME, and complementary development tools. You will be responsible for maintaining spatial databases, improving data quality, implementing automation pipelines, and supporting application development efforts through clean, scalable code.
Develop, configure, and maintain GIS applications using ESRI ArcGIS technologies (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online).
Build automated ETL workflows and spatial data transformations using FME Desktop and FME Server.
Create and manage geospatial datasets, feature services, and spatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server).
Implement geospatial data standards, quality checks, and metadata practices.
Develop scripts, tools, and APIs to streamline GIS operations (Python, JavaScript, or Java preferred).
Integrate GIS capabilities with enterprise systems, analytics platforms, or cloud environments.
Support map creation, spatial analysis, geoprocessing services, and visualization products.
Troubleshoot GIS application issues and support end users with training or documentation.
Participate in Agile development processes, requirement refinement, and code reviews.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
A successful candidate brings strong foundational knowledge in GIS concepts, spatial databases, and geospatial data management. You should be comfortable working with both desktop and server based GIS environments and have experience developing automated workflows or custom tools that enhance GIS operations. Hands on experience with ESRI technologies is essential, and familiarity with FME will strongly distinguish you. While Java development experience is not required, candidates with Java skills will have additional growth opportunities, particularly in enterprise application environments.
Experience with ESRI ArcGIS products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online).
Strong understanding of spatial data structures, projections, geoprocessing, and analysis.
Experience developing scripts or tools using Python or another programming language.
Experience working with spatial databases (PostGIS, SQL Server, Oracle Spatial, etc.).
Ability to translate user requirements into functional geospatial tools or workflows.
Excellent analytical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills.
Bachelors Degree and 4 years of experience
Desired qualifications/non essential skills required:
FME Desktop and/or FME Server experience; FME certification strongly preferred.
Experience building GIS automation, ETL pipelines, or data quality workflows in FME.
Experience with Java development - strongly beneficial but not required.
Familiarity with web mapping frameworks (JavaScript, Leaflet, ArcGIS API for JS).
Experience integrating GIS systems with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Knowledge of Agile development processes and CI/CD practices.
