Job Description

Under direct supervision, performs basic-complexity geological, seismic, hydrogeological, and geotechnical evaluations supporting water supply, environmental, contaminant, and geotechnical assessments. Conducts field investigations, evaluates surface and subsurface conditions, performs technical analyses, and prepares project documentation in accordance with applicable regulations and firm standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Geologic & Hydrogeologic Investigations: Conduct field and subsurface investigations, including well geologic logging, water sampling, surface geological mapping, aquifer testing, soils characterization, and related data collection and evaluation.
  • Technical Analysis & Evaluation: Perform geological, seismic, fault rupture hazard, slope stability, hydrogeologic, geochemical, geotechnical, and contaminant transport analyses. Prepare cross sections, iso-concentration maps, calculations, and QA/QC analyses.
  • Regulatory & Quality Compliance: Develop draft technical evaluations and calculations in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Ensure firm policies, procedures, and quality standards are followed on all assessments.
  • Technical Knowledge & Industry Engagement: Contribute to the firm's technical knowledge management through white papers, technical design documentation, and specialized studies. Prepare technical papers and designs for publication and participate in conferences, symposia, and other professional events to support continued technical development and visibility of the firm's services.
  • Field Operations & Travel: Support projects requiring local and extended field assignments. Coordinate travel and work schedules based on project needs, including occasional overnight travel and extended field hours.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Work Schedule & Travel Expectations

This position requires flexibility to support a variety of field assignments. Typical schedules may include:
  • Weeklong Field Assignments: Monday-Friday, generally 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with occasional extended hours based on drilling or site activities. Sunday afternoon/evening travel may be required for early site arrivals.
  • Periodic Field Assignments: Field work on project-required days, generally 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with remaining work performed from the Maitland office or remotely. Travel may occur the evening prior or early morning depending on project location.
  • 7-on/7-off Assignments: Certain projects may require a Wednesday-Tuesday, 7-on/7-off schedule with 12-hour shifts, typically 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m. These assignments may continue for several months to a year.
  • Travel requirements vary by project and may include hotel accommodations, rental vehicles, mileage reimbursement, and meals, as applicable.

Skills & Abilities

Intermediate Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Basic knowledge of scientific methods and processes. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Good written and verbal communications skills.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Science or related discipline. 1 year of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate's salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.
Additional Compensation

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
