Full Job Description
Peoples Gas Light & Coke Co, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a General Supervisor, Operations in our Chicago, Illinois location.

Job Summary

The General Supervisor, Operations is responsible for planning, scheduling and assigning work to wage earner employees engaged in the construction, operation, maintenance and repair of the gas distribution system, gas equipment, such as meters, regulators, appliances and interior piping on customer premises. They are responsible for overseeing the completion of safety surveys and other regulatory compliance work. Ensures the protection of company property, approves the issuance of tools, materials and other supplies to wage earners, and offers assistance in any and all areas where applicable. Ability to communicate effectively and resolve issues with customers and industry professionals regarding gas piping facilities, pertinent codes and company practices

Leader of regular direct reports - Supervises the performance of a specialized team / work group to comply with relevant company policies, practices and strategies. Promotes company values. Ensures effective staffing, employee development and performance for assigned work group

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supervising wage earner employees in field operations, rotational shift schedule may be required. This includes scheduling, assigning and dispatching work to wage earners, conducting tailgates and safety meetings related to operations, being knowledgeable of company rules and policies and enforcing general practices and procedures related to field activities. Issues disciplinary action when required.
  • Responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of company appurtenances for the gas distribution system. Responsible for supervising and assisting wage earners on main, service and meter work and for obtaining jobbing contracts for related service work as necessary.
  • Provides technical assistance to gas department personnel. Uses knowledge of Open C, Maximo, P-FIeld and other operational systems to ensure that work is properly assigned and completed. Instructs and trains employees on proper work methods, the construction and maintenance of the distribution system, use and care of tools and equipment, as well as safe work habits. Monitors GPS, workload and troubleshoots portable computer problems.
  • Coordinates emergency work with other departments which requires on-call availability.
  • Responsible for consulting with customers, builders and contractors on service problems and the installation of new mains and services. Informs such individuals of company policies and applicable code requirements with regard to piping layouts and meter locations. Inspects the finished work to ascertain that it conforms to specifications, approving or disapproving, and working with the customer to resolve conflicts. Consults with vendors on new tools, equipment and other services.

Pay Range Minimum: $90,507.56

Pay Range Maximum: $135,761.08

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
