DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:- Examines the vision and ocular pathways of patients of all ages for vision errors/disorders, ocular diseases, ocular trauma/infections, and systemic ocular complications
- Monitors ocular health for systemic conditions
- Communicates with patients to get detailed case histories
- Uses ophthalmic equipment for diagnostic testing and subjective and objective interpretation
- Performs refractions for eyeglasses, contact lenses, or specialty lens prescriptions
- Manages fitting, ordering, and dispensing of eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions
- Provides advice, reassurance, and patient care on vision-related matters
- Makes proper and prompt referrals and provides adequate documentation as needed
- Directs dispensing opticians and clerical staff

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:- Knowledge of ocular disease processes and treatments
- Knowledge of prescribing and fitting glasses/contact lenses
- Knowledge of ophthalmic equipment needed to conduct examinations
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of patient personalities
- Ability to work in a high-volume optical setting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A strong sense of workplace professionalism and personal ethics
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:- Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree
- Valid state license to practice optometry
- 1-2 years related experience and/or training (preferred)
- Ocular disease management experience (preferred)
- Optical experience with prescribing and fitting glasses and contact lenses (preferred)
Salary Description
$150,000 - $190,000 per year
