Full Job Description
Position Summary:

MUFG is seeking a senior technology leader to help define and drive the future of AI-enabled software engineering within Business Enablement Technology in IT Americas. This Director-level role will lead the strategy, adoption, and organizational integration of generative AI tools across the software development lifecycle.

This is a highly visible and multifaceted leadership role for an experienced technical practitioner and transformation leader who can bridge engineering, architecture, risk, compliance, security, and business stakeholders. The successful candidate will shape how application development teams use GenAI to improve software delivery, modernize engineering practices, and evolve organizational operating models in a controlled, scalable, and enterprise-ready manner.

This role requires deep hands-on credibility in software architecture and development, strong knowledge of the rapidly evolving GenAI coding ecosystem, and the leadership presence to drive cultural and process change across a large banking technology organization.

Key Responsibilities:

GenAI Strategy and Adoption
• Lead the education, enablement, and adoption of GenAI tools and practices across software development teams within Business Enablement Technology.
• Define and communicate a clear GenAI software engineering strategy and roadmap aligned to organizational priorities, risk standards, and delivery objectives.
• Serve as the senior subject matter expert on the evolving landscape of GenAI for software development, including tooling, models, market direction, and emerging practices within financial services.

Software Development Transformation
• Evolve software development practices, standards, and team workflows to incorporate and optimize the use of GenAI in the engineering lifecycle.
• Identify and recommend changes to engineering processes, development governance, and delivery models to maximize the value of AI-assisted development.
• Address complex questions related to AI-enabled engineering operating models, including code review approaches, team composition, developer responsibilities, productivity models, and product team interaction patterns.
• Help define what enterprise-grade software delivery should look like in a future where a significant portion of code is AI-generated.

Organizational and Cultural Change Leadership
• Drive cultural and organizational change required for successful adoption of GenAI development tools at scale.
• Partner with technology leaders and engineering managers to build practical adoption models, capability development plans, and change management approaches.
• Educate and influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders on the opportunities, limitations, and implications of GenAI-enabled software development.

Governance, Risk, Compliance, and Security Alignment
• Work closely with risk, compliance, and security teams to evolve controls, standards, and oversight frameworks for AI-assisted software development and deployment.
• Help define how software engineering governance must adapt as AI-generated code becomes a significant component of enterprise application delivery.
• Ensure GenAI adoption approaches are aligned with the control environment and regulatory expectations of a large banking institution.

Cross-Functional Partnership and Industry Engagement
• Engage with central engineering and architecture teams to represent the needs, priorities, and realities of application development teams using GenAI tools.
• Collaborate with peers across application development organizations to share lessons learned, coordinate initiatives, and promote consistency where appropriate.
• Monitor external industry developments, particularly within banking and financial services, and translate those developments into actionable recommendations for the organization.
• Forecast and plan for future changes in the GenAI development landscape and help the organization prepare strategically and operationally.

Required Qualifications:
• 10+ years of experience as a full-stack application architect, designer, and developer using modern languages, frameworks, and software engineering tools.
• Demonstrated expertise in modern software architecture, application design, engineering practices, and enterprise software delivery.
• Deep fluency with current GenAI coding tools, models, and development platforms, and a strong understanding of their practical application in enterprise software engineering.
• Experience building or guiding the delivery of enterprise-grade software systems using GenAI-assisted development approaches.
• Proven experience leading large-scale technical transformation and cultural change initiatives within a complex enterprise environment, preferably in a large and/or global bank.
• Strong understanding of software development governance, risk management, security controls, and compliance considerations within regulated environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to educate, influence, and evangelize technical transformation strategies to senior technical leaders, business leaders, and control partners.
• Strong executive presence, stakeholder management skills, and the ability to lead through influence across matrixed organizations.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience within financial services, banking, or another highly regulated industry.
• Experience establishing or evolving engineering standards, developer platforms, or SDLC frameworks at scale.
• Familiarity with secure software development, model governance considerations, and control frameworks relevant to AI-enabled engineering.
• Experience working across global or multi-regional organizations.
• Demonstrated ability to balance innovation, speed, quality, and control in enterprise technology environments.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate is both a senior technologist and a transformation leader: someone with deep engineering credibility, strong knowledge of GenAI's impact on software development, and the judgment to apply that knowledge in a practical, enterprise-ready way. This person should be equally comfortable advising senior executives, influencing engineering teams, and partnering with risk and control functions to shape the future of software delivery in a banking environment.

Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of formal education and experience
