Full Job Description
The Gas Designer is responsible for developing, reviewing, and guiding the production of natural gas distribution and transmission system designs. This role combines high-level CAD proficiency with specialized utility design expertise to create detailed drawings, construction plans, material lists, calculations, and documentation using CAD and utility design platforms.

The Gas Designer II interprets and implements engineering specifications, client standards, utility maps, permitting requirements, and industry codes to deliver safe, accurate, and constructible designs. This position supports technical mentorship to junior designers and CAD technicians, conducts quality control reviews, and drives continuous improvement in design workflows, standards, and documentation practices.

This role requires consistent collaboration with project managers, engineers, cad technicians, field personnel, and external agencies to resolve design challenges, verify field conditions, coordinate data, and support successful execution of complex and large-scale gas utility projects.

What you will do:

  • Support preparation of detailed material lists, design calculations, cost-related inputs, and documentation in support of project approvals and construction.

  • Perform field visits to document existing conditions, verify measurements, and resolve design conflicts.

  • Collaborate closely with CAD technicians, engineers, project managers, and permitting entities to ensure alignment and timely resolution of issues.

  • Communicate with external agencies to obtain existing utility record data.

  • Identify design efficiencies, recommend process improvements, and support continuous enhancement of internal standards and workflows.

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to CAD technicians and designers, including conducting QA/QC reviews of their work.

  • Support data and document entry across relevant project platforms and maintain organized project files.

  • Report safety, health, and quality issues to management as required.

Who you are:

$75,200 - $90,200 a year

The actual base pay depends upon many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
