The RoleWe are seeking a talented Full Stack Engineer to join our Technology team. In this role, you will develop, maintain, and enhance a suite of internal and external user-facing web applications that power Headwater Science's clinical and data operations. You'll work closely with engineering, product, and stakeholders to deliver intuitive, scalable, and performant user experiences that enable data-driven healthcare innovation.
What You'll Do- Design, develop, and maintain modern web applications primarily built with React, TypeScript, and TailwindCSS (experience with D3.js is a plus), and Python FastAPI.
- Collaborate with other engineers, product managers, and UX/UI designers to translate business requirements into functional, high-quality web solutions.
- Implement new features, optimize existing components, and resolve UI/UX bugs in a timely manner.
- Ensure responsive design, accessibility, and consistent cross-browser performance.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code in JavaScript/TypeScript, with strong use of HTML and CSS (or CSS frameworks).
- Support and contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes, including testing, CI/CD, and code review practices.
- Develop and maintain automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests (Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, Playwright).
- Participate in code reviews, CI/CD pipelines (GitLab), and modern DevOps workflows (Docker, AWS, S3, CloudFront).
- Experience using AI coding assistants like Claude Code or Codex.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to improve applications including Headwater's Platform Reporting application, a visualization tool used by epidemiologists and biostatisticians to report out scientific analyses to clients
What You'll Bring- 3+ years of experience as a Frontend Engineer, UI Engineer, or Full Stack Engineer with a frontend focus.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Expertise in at least one major frontend framework (Angular or React).
- Solid command of HTML and CSS, including responsive design and layout techniques.
- Familiarity with testing frameworks and CI/CD processes.
- Experience integrating APIs and visualizing complex data.
- Familiarity with component-based architectures and state management.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on complex features.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
Nice to Have- Experience with CSS frameworks such as Sass, Tailwind, or Nebular.
- Exposure to data visualization tools like Sigma, Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, Looker, or Sisense.
- Ability to explore backend services or APIs when needed to troubleshoot or integrate new features.
- Background in healthcare, life sciences, or data-focused applications.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
