The position at a glanceThis role supports the integrity of BNP Paribas' Global Markets activities by monitoring trading, sales, and communications for conduct-risk breaches. You will develop and apply automated surveillance tools to detect and prevent violations, reinforcing our commitment to responsible banking. The position serves the First Line of Defense to safeguard client trust and ensure regulatory compliance.
In detail- Review voice, electronic communications, and trading activity daily to ensure adherence to firm and regulatory rules to deter conduct-risk breaches.
- Detect and assess potentially suspicious activities promptly by reporting findings to the Monitoring Manager to enable timely corrective action.
- Conduct routine and special inquiries as requested to provide clear documentation of outcomes for senior oversight.
- Work collaboratively with Front Office Conduct & Surveillance managers to resolve apparent breaches and implement remedial measures.
- Escalate issues proactively when identified to ensure senior stakeholders receive accurate information for decision-making.
- Provide day-to-day assistance to regional surveillance teams by sharing best practices and updates to monitoring procedures.
- Ensure surveillance procedures, systems, and controls remain current and effective by recommending improvements where gaps are identified.
- Lead projects that enhance surveillance optimisation and reporting by leveraging technology to increase efficiency.
The strengths and skills that will help you succeed- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Law or a related discipline.
- The knowledge of English and French is required.*
- The knowledge of Spanish is an asset.
- Minimum 3 years and up to 7years of surveillance, compliance or risk-management experience within a financial-services or securities environment.
- Collaborative problem solving when working with cross-functional teams to resolve potential conduct breaches.
- Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables, to organise and analyse data sets for surveillance monitoring.
- Proficiency with technology tools and workflow investigation platforms to automate and streamline monitoring processes.
- Strong communication skills to present surveillance findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders via clear PowerPoint presentations.
- Ability to adapt responsibly to regulatory changes and update surveillance procedures accordingly.
- Capacity to prioritise multiple work streams, ensuring timely escalation of issues and delivery of accurate reporting.
- Understanding of capital markets and trading terminology to interpret activity and support risk identification.
