Full Job Description
About the Role:

We're looking for a detail-obsessed frontend engineer to help shape the face of Nell's products. You'll work at the intersection of design and engineering, building fast, beautiful interfaces that make media feel magical. Our success depends on shipping experiences that are not only technically sound but genuinely delightful to use.

You'll collaborate closely with product, design, and full-stack engineers to bring new ideas to life - from early prototypes to polished, production-ready features. We value engineers who care deeply about craft, take ownership of the user experience, and move quickly without cutting corners.

What You'll Do:
  • Build and iterate on high-quality web interfaces using React, Typescript, and other modern frontend tooling.
  • Develop and maintain a cohesive design system and shared component library.
  • Optimize for performance, accessibility, and responsiveness across devices. Think in end-to-end workflows, not isolated screens.
  • Partner tightly with design to turn prototypes into production-quality experiences (layout, motion, typography, interaction details).
  • Improve quality and reliability through testing, instrumentation, and thoughtful UX for failure modes.
  • Help integrate AI and generative media capabilities into compelling, intuitive user experiences.

We're Looking For Someone Who:
  • Has strong experience with modern frontend stacks and a high bar for UI craft.
  • Excels in environments with ambiguity and rapid change, turning complex requirements into practical, elegant solutions.
  • Has a strong eye for design and an obsession with the details that make great UIs feel great.
  • Writes clean, maintainable code and takes pride in the quality of what they ship.
  • Communicates well and collaborates naturally with designers, product managers, and engineers.
  • Is eager to learn new technologies and share what they discover with the team!

Strong Candidates May Also Have:
  • Experience building or consuming design systems and component libraries.
  • Familiarity with UI animation and motion design.
  • A perspective on human-AI interaction and curiosity about how AI changes what interfaces can be.
  • Experience with performance profiling and optimization techniques.
  • Interest in or exposure to backend development or full-stack work.

Benefits:
  • Based out of our office in San Francisco, we love the energy of in-person collaboration.
  • Competitive Salary and Equity
  • Comprehensive Medical, Vision, and Dental care
  • Flexible PTO Policy
  • Lunch and Dinner Service in the office
  • Wellness Benefit
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
  • Pre-Tax Commuter Benefit for Parking & Public Transit
  • Company-wide Retreats
