Full Job Description
Dedicated to our Construction Clients in our Construction & Real Estate Solutions Group

SUMMARY

The Fractional Controller will be responsible for oversight and direction of multiple controller level engagements and special assignments for contractors. This person will have a strong construction accounting background, understand the nuances and challenges of the industry, and advise clients on such. Therefore, this is a client facing role. The position will be required to develop and maintain relationships with clients as well as client stakeholders, which may include their bank, surety and bonding company, and/or insurance provider.

On the technical side this person will have strong bookkeeping, management reporting, month-end closing, and payroll experience with the ability to produce accurate financial statements. The ideal candidate will have experience contributing to business strategy, which may include the development of forecasts, projections, or financial models. In addition, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities to research and learn, focused on staying up to date on industry developments, macroeconomic factors affecting contractors, and key accounting and finance topics that may be relevant to the client base.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required, Master of Business Administration or Certified Construction Financial Professional certification (CCIFP) preferred


  • 5 + years of private accounting experience, construction industry experience strongly preferred


  • Demonstrated aptitude in common construction accounting methodologies, including WIP (or percentage of completion), job costing, variance analysis, labor and burden rates, and billing and retainage,


  • Demonstrated aptitude in producing projections and financial models,


  • Ability to meet deadlines and take ownership of work


  • Strong communication, organizational and time management skills


  • Experience with Foundation Software, Acumatica, or similar Construction focused accounting software required; demonstrated aptitude to learn new software programs strongly preferred.


  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills; ability to build and maintain relationships with clients


  • GAAP understanding preferred


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain ownership of multiple engagements, varying in complexity, simultaneously


  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of each client's accounting operations


  • Review month end close procedures and provide constructive feedback to client team members


  • Prepare financial statements and custom financial reports (such as projections or financial models) for clients by agreed upon deadline


  • Identify opportunities for additional client services


  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients; interact on a regular basis


  • Effectively communicate all aspects of work performed to clients, team members and principals


  • Facilitate financial compliance work, which may include financial statement audits, review, compilations, tax work, or others


  • Maintain working knowledge of accounting software packages, payroll systems, industry trends, and other related knowledge applicable to a client's construction business and needs


  • Ability to research and resolve complex accounting questions


  • Ability to work well with internal team members at all levels of the organization. Manage team members assigned to Fractional Controller engagements by ensuring that client satisfaction remains high and team members are coached and trained effectively. Share knowledge and trends that can collectively support the Construction and Real Estate Solution group's ability to effectively service its clients.
