This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

A successful candidate will understand fluid systems, fluid dynamics, and compressible and incompressible flow for space vehicles.

The position will work under a senior engineer accountable for the helium system within the Gas and Thrusters (G&T) team on our Transfer Stage Vehicle. You will be responsible for design of the components and sub-assembly systems for the helium subsystem. Our team will size, select materials, and analyze components for structural integrity due to pressure, vibration, fracture, fatigue, etc.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Fluids sub-assembly design and development, designing parts and assemblies in CAD (Creo preferred).
• Analyze custom components for fluid, thermal, and structural applications.
• Interpreting and generating Piping and instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using AutoCAD.
• Create specifications for fluid/gas components i.e., solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels, and instrumentation.
• Develop and maintain interface definitions between fluid systems and other vehicle subsystems.
• Perform component trade studies and analyze test data.
• Work with suppliers or Blue Origin groups to identify components and support procurement, fabrication, and installation.
• Perform component verification of internally and externally sourced components to company standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience in 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred).
• 2+ years of proven experience in the design of aerospace fluid or mechanical systems.
• Knowledge and experience with gas systems.
• Proficiency in crafting engineering drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
• Experience performing flow and pressure calculations as well as structural and thermal analysis of fluid systems.
• Proven understand of fluid components such as valves, tubing, and pressurized hardware.
• Develop and maintain interface definitions between the vehicle and subsystems. Knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods of fluid systems (tube stock, fittings, connections, fasteners, welding, etc.)
• Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communications skills
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering field
• Hands-on experience building and testing mechanical assemblies or pressurized components/systems

Base Pay Range for:

WA applicants is $99,201.00 - $138,880.35
