Position Overview:
Position: Fleet Analyst, Mining (Onsite) Location: Fort McMurray, AB | Shift: 5x2 - Monday to Friday | Full-Time, Permanent

The On-Site Fleet Analyst, Mining at Finning will be based at key customers sites and play a vital role in the proactive execution of Condition Monitoring (CM) alerts generated from the Caterpillar / Finning condition monitoring program.

This position demands a passionate and driven individual who thrives on tackling challenges head-on, using a hands-on approach to ensure equipment issues are addressed swiftly and effectively. With a strong sense of ownership and a commitment to continuous improvement, the Analyst will actively engage with site teams and remote CM support to drive timely, informed decisions that enhance equipment reliability and performance.

Job Description:

Major Job Functions:

Condition Monitoring Execution (30%)
  • Review and interpret condition monitoring recommendations created by remote CM teams
  • Accountable for process on actioning CM recommendations while providing updates and feedback
  • Review supporting evidence with site-based data points to determine severity of recommendations
  • Track accepted, scheduled and completed recommendations for program success KPIs
  • Escalate as required to appropriate site maintenance teams


Recommendation Backlog Management (20%)
  • Maintain backlog of deficiencies for assets to be addressed at planned outages
  • Work with planning team to prioritize and schedule reported issues
  • Periodically review recommendations and needs for escalation
  • Review data prior to PM to identify opportunities in proactive maintenance


Asset Health Management (20%)
  • Review asset inspection reports for added insights
  • Track downtime as related to condition monitoring efforts
  • Use supporting CM data to monitor and report on condition of components to support in replacement decisions
  • Maintain a proactive presence on the shop floor to inspect magnetic plugs and filter cut-outs, analyze oil samples, and identify operational risks and improvement opportunities.


Collaboration and Communication (15%)
  • Act as point of contact for CM data between Caterpillar, Customer and other stakeholders.
  • Support Finning in ability to drive best achievable uptime for fleet.
  • Support reliability engineers in addressing top downtime drivers and bad actors
  • Manage fleet reports to convey areas of improvement and value provided


Program Improvements (15%)
  • Actively work with Caterpillar / Finning CM team to align CM platform analytics with site requirements
  • Participate in program and process improvements with site maintenance teams
  • Identify areas of concern requiring increased visibility and new ways to capture data for CM program


Education & Experience
  • Heavy Duty Mechanic certification, Mechanical or Mining Engineering degree, or equivalent technical education.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on mechanical experience, preferably with Finning or another Caterpillar dealer.
  • Strong understanding of equipment systems including engines, powertrain, hydraulics, electronics, and telematics.
  • Understanding effective inspection process and equipment lifecycle planning.
  • Strong understanding of oil sample analysis
  • Familiarity with Condition Monitoring (CM) workflows, tools, and reporting processes is an asset.
  • Extended knowledge of mining equipment (Large Off Highway Trucks, Shovels, Track Type Tractors, Motor Graders) and mine site processes considered an asset
  • Proven ability to interpret technical data, fluid analysis, and inspection results to assess equipment health.
  • Experience with mining equipment and site operations is considered a strong asset.
  • Skilled in strategic problem-solving and prioritizing in dynamic, high-pressure environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze component performance and recommend actionable solutions.
  • Effective communicator with a customer-focused approach.
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented, capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
