Overview
The Fitness Manager is responsible for leading, developing, and overseeing all fitness programming and operations at the Club, delivering a high-quality, inclusive wellness experience for members of all ages and ability levels. This role provides day-to-day leadership for personal trainers and group fitness instructors, ensures consistency and excellence in programming, and serves as a visible ambassador for the Club's fitness culture.
The Fitness Manager is accountable for program quality, staff performance, member satisfaction, and department revenue growth. By balancing hands-on leadership with strategic oversight, this position supports the Club's commitment to wellness, hospitality, and personalized service while
driving participation and financial performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Development
• Develop, manage, and evolve a comprehensive fitness program serving a wide range of
member interests and ability levels.
• Oversee offerings across multiple disciplines including strength training, group fitness, yoga, spin, Pilates, dance fitness, HIIT, somatics, and specialty programs.
• Partner with the Director of Club Operations and Club General Manager to design and launch new programs, events, and seasonal initiatives.
• Ensure all fitness programming aligns with Club standards, brand positioning, and member expectations.
• Monitor industry trends and best practices to keep offerings current and competitive.
Staff Management & Scheduling
• Recruit, supervise, mentor, and support personal trainers and group fitness instructors.
• Manage instructor scheduling, payroll submissions, and class coverage to ensure consistent service levels.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for personal training inquiries, matching members with appropriate trainers based on goals and experience.
• Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback to support professional development and accountability.
• Model professionalism, technical expertise, and service standards at all times.
Member Experience & Engagement
• Maintain a visible and approachable presence in fitness spaces and at Club events.
• Serve as the primary resource for member questions, recommendations, and fitness related concerns.
• Address and resolve feedback related to programming, instructor coverage, and scheduling.
• Oversee execution of the Safe Lifter program, providing guidance and stepping in to deliver sessions only when necessary.
• Foster an inclusive, welcoming environment rooted in encouragement, safety, and personalization.
Operations & Technology
• Manage Technogym scheduling software, ensuring accuracy of schedules, instructor assignments, and program information.
• Monitor facility conditions and equipment performance; recommend replacements or upgrades with approval from the Club General Manager
• Act as the primary liaison with the Club's equipment maintenance vendor (Club Care),ensuring preventative maintenance, service documentation, and equipment uptime.
• Review Club Care invoices for accuracy prior to submission for final approval.
• Support clean, organized, and well-maintained fitness spaces in partnership with Operations and Engineering teams.
Revenue Growth & Performance Management
• Utilize historical data, participation trends, and member feedback to drive personal training and group fitness revenue growth.
• Partner with Club leadership to establish performance benchmarks, utilization goals, and financial targets.
• Track participation, instructor performance, and member satisfaction, adjusting programming as needed to optimize results.
• Balance personal training delivery with leadership responsibilities to ensure sustainable department performance
Qualifications and Skills
• Strong knowledge of fitness programming across multiple modalities.
• Proven leadership and mentorship capability.
• Excellent communication skills with diverse age groups and fitness levels.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with scheduling and management software (Technogym preferred).
• Member-focused, approachable, and service-oriented.
• Minimum five years of fitness or wellness management experience.
• Nationally recognized fitness certifications (NASM, ACE, ACSM, or equivalent) preferred.
• CPR/AED certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Demonstrated success driving engagement, utilization, and revenue growth.
