Full Job Description
In this role, you will validate and verify firmware against functional specifications, using test plans and test tools to ensure high product quality, reliability, and compliance throughout the development lifecycle, playing a key role in delivering dependable, high-performing products.

As a Firmware Test Engineer, a typical day might include the following:
  • Design and implement firmware quality policies, test methods, and measurement strategies to ensure compliance with internal and industry standards.
  • Develop and contribute to firmware test strategies, including risk-based and requirements-based testing approaches.
  • Create, maintain, and execute detailed firmware test plans and test cases for embedded systems.
  • Perform integration, functional, regression, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing for firmware features.
  • Develop and maintain Python-based automated test frameworks and scripts.
  • Analyze test outcomes, document defects, and communicate results to firmware and cross-functional development teams.
  • Develop high quality, object-oriented, and unit-tested test code according coding standards, internal processes, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews of all work products (code, documentation, test results).
  • Support root-cause analysis and debugging of firmware issues across software-hardware interfaces.
  • Continuously identify and improve firmware development and test processes to increase efficiency and product quality.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Strong programming skills in Python (required) and C++/C (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate clearly, effectively and efficiently both in writing and verbally.
  • Two years of experience in firmware or embedded software development/testing, including hands-on test execution.
  • Experience with embedded debugging tools, firmware test environments, and test automation.
  • Demonstrated experience unit and functional testing.
  • Knowledge of Agile development principles and processes.
  • Experience with revision control systems, such as Git.
  • Strong understanding of software and firmware quality standards and best practices.
  • English proficiency: 80% or higher (written and spoken).
  • Infrequent business travel.


Ideal Qualifications
  • Experience in integration, regression, white-box, black-box, and performance testing in embedded/firmware environments.
  • Experience building and maintaining automated test suites using Python and/or C++.
  • Ability to communicate test results effectively using reports, dashboards, spreadsheets, databases, or similar tools.
  • Strong written, verbal, and technical documentation skills.
  • Experience with code reviews and enforcing coding standards in firmware projects.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as Ethernet and Serial (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN is a plus).
  • Knowledge of electrical power systems.

Salary Range Data

We anticipate filling this position as a Test Engineer $97,000 - $144,000 per year. Our compensation ranges are based on the responsibilities of the role. Starting pay is determined individually and considers factors such as relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and training. Candidates may be considered at different levels based on their background. As a result, pay may vary to align with the level of the role.
