Full Job Description
Description
Orano USA is seeking a Fire Safety Engineer to support fire safety and suppression engineering for Project IKE. As the Fire Safety Engineer, you will apply advanced fire protection engineering principles to high-hazard industrial environments, including uranium-enrichment systems, chemical processes, and specialized nuclear facilities. You will design and evaluate fire protection systems, lead hazard analyses, and collaborate with engineering, operations, and regulatory teams to maintain world-class safety performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Fire Hazard Analysis - Perform fire and explosion hazard assessments for nuclear and industrial systems, including chemical storage, enrichment equipment, and critical infrastructure.
  • Fire Protection System Design - Engineer suppression, detection, alarm, and smoke control systems compliant with NFPA, DOE, NRC, and Orano internal standards.
  • Code and Regulatory Compliance - Interpret and apply NFPA codes, IBC/IFC, and nuclear-industry fire protection requirements; support licensing and regulatory documentation.
  • Performance-based Fire Modeling - Use FDS, PyroSim, and egress modeling tools to evaluate fire scenarios, smoke movement, and evacuation strategies.
  • Facility Inspections and Audits - Conduct inspections of fire pumps, sprinklers, alarms, extinguishing systems, and facility fire barriers; document findings and corrective actions.
  • Emergency Preparedness Support - Contribute to fire response planning, drills, and training for operations and emergency teams.
  • Incident Investigation - Participate in root-cause analyses and develop engineering recommendations following fire-related events.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration - Work closely with nuclear safety engineers, chemical engineers, operations managers, and external r egulators.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in fire protection engineering, preferably in industrial, chemical, or nuclear environments.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA codes, IBC/IFC, and performance-based fire engineering.
  • Experience with fire modeling tools (FDS, PyroSim) and hydraulic calculation software.
  • Ability to produce clear, technically rigorous reports for internal and regulatory audiences.

Preferred Skills
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Fire Protection.
  • Experience with NRC, DOE, or other nuclear-industry fire protection requirements.
  • Familiarity with combustible loading analysis, fire barrier evaluations, and high-hazard industrial processes.
  • Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) or equivalent credential.
