Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000

POSITION SUMMARY

The Financial Specialist is responsible for preparing entity and consolidated financial statements, operational and KPI reporting, and management and Board reporting packages for all entities. This role supports month-end and year-end close processes, including intercompany reconciliations, and contributes to external audit preparation and fieldwork, tax review, and cash flow monitoring and forecasting to ensure accurate reporting and adequate liquidity. The incumbent also develops financial insights, reporting materials, and process improvements that support operational priorities, investment decisions, funding needs, and continuous improvement across the accounting function.

KEY DUTIES

  • Prepare entity and consolidated financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, adhering to relevant compliance standards for first-pass issuance;
  • Prepare accurate and timely operational reporting for monthly, quarterly, and annual management and board reporting package for all entities, including financial and KPI reporting;
  • Develop reporting packages and presentation materials for senior management and support finance initiatives that improve reporting accuracy, efficiency, and automation;
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and overview of balance sheet account reconciliations;
  • Assist in the preparation of standard working papers and assemble the full audit package in advance of the annual external audit;
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax professionals by organizing required documentation and responding to review and audit requests;
  • Review intercompany billings and settlements across all entities; every intercompany balance agreed monthly;
  • Monitor daily cash balances, manage cash concentration and forecast short- and long-term cash flow for all entities, to ensure adequate liquidity to support operational strategy;
  • Support cash flow planning and prepare financial insights that assist with operational priorities, investment decisions, and funding needs;
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounting function;
  • Attend Board meetings when requested;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • A team player who can assist business unit leaders to understand and support change


KNOWLEDGE

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Knowledge of the Utility Regulatory Framework and the Ontario Energy Board's Accounting Procedures Handbook (APH) considered an asset


EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in business/accounting or related discipline
  • Professional Accounting Designation, CPA
  • Minimum 5 years in accounting/financial analysis role
  • Experience in the electricity sector is considered an asset
