Our Financial Services EY EDGE practice is made up of a team of professionals providing dedicated tax technical services to both US and global clients. EDGE stands for Exceptional Delivery and Growth Engine because this team operates in a technical environment with deep process and service delivery experience that distinguishes EY in the marketplace.

Join our Tax Technology and Transformation Team as a Data Scientist Senior, where you will be part of a technology organization that develops and maintains innovative solutions for our client-serving Tax professionals. You will have the opportunity to partner with Tax stakeholders to analyze complex datasets, design and develop advanced data science solutions, and deliver actionable insights using modern Azure-based data and analytics platforms. In this role, you will leverage tools such as Azure Data Services and Power BI to support data exploration, model deployment, and analytical storytelling.

Your key responsibilities
  • Comprehend and translate business requirements in the Tax domain into analytical problem statements
  • Partner with business stakeholders, data engineers, and architects to design end-to-end data science and analytics solutions
  • Explore, analyze, and prepare structured and semi-structured data for advanced analytics and modeling
  • Develop data features and transformations in collaboration with data engineering teams
  • Expose analytical insights to end users through Power BI dashboards, APIs, or other modern visualization platforms
  • Write complex SQL queries to extract and analyze data across multiple source systems
  • Identify data quality issues, assess data limitations, and recommend remediation approaches
  • Perform end-to-end data validation and model testing
  • Document analytical approaches, assumptions, methodologies, and results for both technical and non-technical audiences


Skills and attributes for success
  • Strong experience with data science and analytics using Python, R, or similar analytical programming languages
  • Experience working with Azure-based data platforms (e.g., Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse)
  • Strong SQL skills with experience querying large, complex datasets
  • Experience applying statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling techniques in a production environment
  • Knowledge of data engineering concepts, ETL processes, and collaboration with data pipeline teams
  • Understanding of data quality, data governance, and master data management principles
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or similar platforms
  • Knowledge of DevOps processes (including CI/CD) and model deployment or MLOps fundamentals
  • Experience working with large-scale, enterprise datasets in a regulated or professional services environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities
  • Good understanding of model validation, testing, and analytical best practices
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to lead project teams, mentor junior professionals, and support client-serving engagements
  • Strong proficiency and comfort working with new and emerging analytics and data science technologies
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to capture and synthesize business requirements


To qualify for the role, you must have
  • Bachelor's degree required (4-year degree) Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Economics and/or a master's degree in Accounting, Tax Technology, Management Information Systems, or Computer Science or related field
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience
  • You are required to have one of the following certifications: CPA, EA, JD, Master's degree in business administration, finance, economics, computer science, information systems or engineering, Quantitative Economics or Quants
  • Exposure to the financial services industry, accounting/finance/tax, tax or finance performance improvement, tax software development and/or implementation
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and monitoring them until completion, including documenting requirements, configuration, testing, debugging, project profitability, and tax systems and process configuration

  • We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $86,900 to $143,400. The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $104,300 to $163,100. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.
  • Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
  • Under our flexible vacation policy, you'll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances.
