Job Description

BUSINESS OVERVIEW

U.S. Bancorp Fixed Income, Currencies & Commodities (FICC) is building out a newly created Financial Risk & Strategy function to provide dedicated front-line risk management, financial resource management, and strategic oversight across the FICC businesses, including Macro (Rates / FX), Structured Credit, Working Capital Finance, Debt Capital Markets, Credit, and Commodities. This build-out coincides with U.S. Bancorp's transition across the Category II regulatory asset threshold and the integration of BTIG LLC's equities and prime brokerage capabilities, creating a highly visible mandate at the intersection of risk, finance, and strategy within Global Capital Markets.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Head of FICC Financial Risk & Strategy, the Director will serve as a front-line financial risk partner to Fixed Income, Currencies & Commodities (FICC) businesses, providing oversight of market, counterparty, and credit risk exposures, limits, concentrations, and risk-adjusted returns. This role operates within the first line of defense and works in close partnership with the respective second-line Market Risk, Counterparty Risk, and Credit Risk teams to establish clear, well-governed risk boundaries, escalation protocols, and governance standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Risk Oversight
  • Provide first-line oversight of market, counterparty, and credit risk exposures across FICC trading desks, including limit utilization, sensitivities, VaR, stress testing, current exposure, potential future exposure, collateralization, and portfolio concentrations
  • Analyze and challenge desk-level risk-taking, counterparty exposures, and credit concentrations against approved limits and risk appetite; escalate breaches, deteriorating credit quality, and emerging concentrations to senior management
  • Partner with the respective second-line Market Risk, Counterparty Risk, and Credit Risk teams to establish and maintain clear first-line/second-line boundaries, escalation protocols, approval standards, and governance cadence

Capital and Financial Performance
  • Support the FICC Balance Sheet Council with risk-adjusted return analysis and capital decomposition by desk and product
  • Partner with Finance on P&L attribution and risk-driven variance analysis
  • Prepare risk commentary and materials for senior management, Finance teams, and governance forums

Regulatory and Strategic Initiatives
  • Contribute to FRTB, SA-CCR, and CVA capital framework implementation as they affect FICC trading books
  • Support BTIG LLC integration workstreams.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • 8+ years of experience in financial risk management, trading risk, counterparty risk, credit risk, or a related front-line risk function at a broker-dealer or bank
  • Strong grounding in financial risk frameworks, including VaR, sensitivities, stress testing, limits, counterparty exposure measurement, collateral and netting concepts, and credit assessment across rates, credit, or securitized products
  • Working knowledge of FRTB, SA-CCR, CVA, and related regulatory capital frameworks
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or CFA / FRM / PRM designation preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to operate across first- and second-line functions with strong stakeholder management skills
  • FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses required, or ability to obtain within a defined onboarding period
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing materials for senior management

PREFERRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
  • Advanced degree or CFA / FRM / PRM designation
  • Experience with FICC financial risk across market, counterparty, and credit risk for Macro (Rates / FX), Structured Credit, Working Capital Finance, Debt Capital Markets, Credit, or Commodities businesses
  • Experience supporting Category II regulatory transition, broker-dealer integration, or trading-book capital transformation
