Job Summary: Lockton is seeking a Financial Consultant with strong health care underwriting background to support the Health & Welfare Actuarial & Financial Analytics Practice in delivering financial and underwriting analyses for employer-sponsored health benefit programs. This role will be responsible for developing annual budget projections, renewal rate recommendations, medical and pharmacy claim analyses, and financial modeling that informs client strategy and decision-making.
The ideal candidate possesses 6 + years of health and welfare underwriting experience, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to communicate complex financial information to consultants, client teams, and employers. This individual will work collaboratively with actuaries, consultants, pharmacy specialists, and account teams to deliver actionable insights and exceptional client service.
Financial Analysis & Underwriting - Develop annual health plan budget projections, renewal analyses, and funding rate recommendations for self-funded and fully insured employer health plans.
- Analyze medical, pharmacy, stop-loss, and ancillary claims experience to identify utilization trends, cost drivers, and emerging risks.
- Build and maintain underwriting models used to establish future-year cost projections and contribution strategies.
- Evaluate carrier renewal proposals and develop independent underwriting assessments.
- Support development of health plan reserve estimates for self-funded clients.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting deliverables for clients.
- Assist client teams in evaluating plan design changes, vendor transitions, and cost-containment initiatives.
Client Support & Consulting - Present underwriting results and financial analyses to consultants and client teams.
- Support client budgeting and strategic planning processes through the development of financial forecasts.
- Collaborate with consultants, actuaries, pharmacy specialists, and account managers to develop client recommendations.
- Respond to client and consultant requests regarding plan performance, emerging trends, and financial implications of program changes.
- Contribute to the preparation of stewardship reports, board presentations, and financial exhibits.
- Participate in client meetings and possibly prospect presentations as needed, delivering financial information and results.
Data Management & Reporting - Validate and analyze eligibility, claims, premium, and financial data from carriers, TPAs, PBMs, and other vendors.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of underwriting assumptions, financial models, and reporting outputs.
- Maintain documentation supporting underwriting methodologies and assumptions.
- Identify opportunities to improve underwriting processes and reporting efficiencies through technology and automation.
Practice & Team Contributions - Support the development and maintenance of underwriting tools, templates, and best practices.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Mentor junior analysts and underwriting staff as appropriate.
- Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing across consulting, actuarial, and analytics teams.

Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in , Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field.
- 6+ years of underwriting experience within employer-sponsored health benefits, health insurance, consulting, carrier, TPA, or brokerage environments.
- Strong understanding of self-funded and fully insured medical plans, pharmacy benefit management and pharmacy trend analysis, stop-loss underwriting, population health and utilization trends, and health plan funding arrangements.
- Experience developing employer health plan budget forecasts and renewal projections.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and financial modeling.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting large and middle-market employers.
- Exposure to actuarial methodologies and healthcare trend forecasting.
- Familiarity with reporting and analytics platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
- CEBS, HIA, MHP, or other health benefits-related professional designation.
- Experience working within a consulting or brokerage environment.
