Your Opportunity

Under the direction of the Manager, Accounting & Processing Support, the Financial Analyst provides direct support to the processing and accounting function within the Financial Services Department by providing operational guidance to the day-to-day processing activities and functional assistance to the accounting activities.

The role's core responsibilities include supporting the accurate and timely processing of invoices, purchase orders, journal entries and other financial transactions; maintaining effective relationships with departmental business offices; responding to enquiries related to processing and accounting; troubleshooting and resolving complex processing issues; ensuring financial transactions are supported by appropriate documentation and comply with established University policies and internal controls; and identifying opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of financial processes.

The Financial Analyst also supports financial reporting and reconciliation activities, including regular and ad hoc reporting, accounts receivable aging analysis, departmental follow-up, and other operational reporting requirements. The position plays a key role in maintaining financial accuracy, compliance and service excellence, and contributes to workflow improvements, compliance reviews and the continuous enhancement of financial operations.

Qualifications Required

I. EDUCATION:

• University degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.
• Professional accounting designation (CPA), completed or in progress, is strongly preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered.

II. EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum 4 years of recent related experience in financial analysis, quality assurance, compliance analysis, processing support, accounting, or related financial functions preferably in a university or comparable not-for-profit business entity.
• Demonstrated ability to apply accounting principles and analytical skills to resolve financial issues, assess and suggest improvements, identify risks and trends, and communicate financial information and recommendations clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP. Conversant with relevant SAP or comparable ERP modules.
• Ability to anticipate and mitigate associated financial risks or penalties.
• Superb written and oral communication skills.
• Advanced skill level using Microsoft Office suite with a strong emphasis on Excel.
• Demonstrated high degree of aptitude for critical thinking coupled with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience developing reports and dashboards using data visualization tools is preferred.

III. SKILLS:

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Knowledge of financial reporting and analysis tools.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Working knowledge of financial controls, accounting principles and financial practices.
• Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, PeopleSoft, FIS, or HRIS is an asset.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

IV. OTHER:
