Job Description

Corporate Treasury is seeking a Financial Analyst to support the Treasury Stakeholder Engagement team's Peer Intelligence function. This role serves as a key source of external insight for Treasury leadership by monitoring peer bank strategies, industry developments, macroeconomic trends, and evolving balance sheet management dynamics across the banking sector.

The analyst will synthesize information from financial disclosures, earnings calls, investor presentations, conferences, economic research, and regulatory developments to develop well-supported perspectives on how peer institutions are responding to changing market conditions. Success in this role requires intellectual curiosity, analytical rigor, sound judgment, and the ability to develop informed conclusions even when information is incomplete or evolving.

The role is designed for an individual who enjoys digging into complex questions, connecting disparate data points, challenging assumptions, and translating detailed analysis into concise, leadership-ready insights. The analyst will be expected to own peer reporting and ad hoc peer analysis, demonstrate leadership through influence and initiative, and contribute meaningfully to Treasury's understanding of the competitive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor peer bank financial performance, balance sheet trends, strategic priorities, and business model developments.
  • Evaluate peer approaches to deposit strategy, liquidity management, funding, capital, interest rate risk, and balance sheet optimization.
  • Synthesize information from regulatory filings, earnings materials, investor presentations, conferences, and public disclosures into meaningful analysis.
  • Develop analyses that connects observations to broader themes and strategic implications while creating concise executive-ready materials.
  • Form and document well-supported assumptions when information is limited or incomplete.
  • Assess how industry developments and peer actions may influence U.S. Bank's strategy.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Typically three or more years of related experience

Preferred Skills and Characteristics
  • Intellectual curiosity and a genuine interest in understanding how banks operate, compete, and adapt.
  • Ability to investigate ambiguous questions and develop thoughtful conclusions.
  • Strong critical-thinking skills and willingness to challenge assumptions.
  • Sound judgment when information is incomplete or evolving.
  • Robust communications skills, with an exceptional ability to synthesize complex information into leadership-ready insights.
  • Ownership mindset and ability to proactively assess relevant developments and independently pursue answers.
  • Interest in Treasury disciplines including balance sheet management, liquidity, funding, capital, interest rate risk, and strategic forecasting.
