Summary

The Financial Analyst is responsible for supporting the CFO, VP of Finance, and Director of Finance in financial reporting, analysis, system support and projects. This position will be responsible for preparing journal entries, analyzing financial data, preparing monthly reports and explaining financial statement variances.

Position Reports To: Accounting Supervisor

Essential Functions

  1. Provide internal audit support for various departments to ensure compliance and accuracy in financial reporting.
  2. Assist management with system analysis and recommend improvements to internal control to enhance operational efficiency and financial integrity.
  3. Prepare timely, credible, and understandable financial analysis to enhance decision making processes and reach strategic initiatives.
  4. Utilize report writing tools from various financial systems to provide meaningful, accurate data and reports to inform management decisions.
  5. Make recommendations of system changes or new implementations to improve analysis and financial systems.
  6. Analyze and evaluate financial systems and processes. Collaborate closely with information technology and software vendors during system upgrades, implementations, and interface integrations.
  7. Coordinate with system administrators, applications managers, and other analysts to streamline workflow processes. Make recommendations for improvements to enhance efficiency.
  8. Assist in conducting financial feasibility analysis of major capital projects and evaluate the financial viability of various hospital lines of business.
  9. Educate management and cross-department staff in issues related to financial analysis tools and emerging trends in financial management and analysis.
  10. Ensures open communication within the organization, attends interdepartmental meetings as required or requested. Works closely with other departments in implementing new procedures for maximum efficiency. Promote and maintain teamwork standards both departmentally and interdepartmentally.
  11. Primary responsibility for shared functions within the department to include:
    • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
    • Provide support during internal and external audits.
    • Ensure adherence to all relevant financial policies, procedures and regulations.
    • Adhere to a monthly financial close schedule to ensure timely completion of work.
    • Prepare monthly journal entries.
    • Prepare account reconciliations.
    • Manage and account for Fixed Assets.
    • Handle Lease Accounting Processes.
    • Assist with Foundation Accounting and Reporting.
    • Oversee Grant Billing and Accounting.
    • Perform Cost Allocations.
    • Monthly Excise Tax reporting.
    • Analysis and monthly adjustments to contractual allowances, other deductions, charity, and implicit price concessions.
    • Manage Bond and Investment Accounting.
    • Conduct Variance analysis and investigation.
    • Perform Balance Sheet settlement and reconciliation.
    • Prepare Quarterly Covenant Reporting.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree or advanced degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
