Full Job Description
The Position:

As a Field Operations Technician at Treeswift, your most important job is the customer relationship. You'll serve as the trusted on-the-ground partner who makes every deployment run smoothly and make sure that every customer feels confident in what Treeswift is delivering.

This is a hands-on, high-travel role for someone who thrives in autonomous environments, values precision, and works effectively across field teams and technical staff. This role is not just about operating equipment, it's about being a key part of how Treeswift shows up in the field.

You'll be part of a small, high-trust team that works closely together on the road to ensure every project is executed safely, professionally, and reliably. What sets the right person apart is the ability to build trust quickly, navigate unexpected situations with professionalism, and make customers feel like they're in good hands every single day in the field.

The technical side, operating LiDAR and sensor equipment, managing logistics, and ensuring data quality, is something you'll bring experience to and continue to build on as our technology evolves.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead field data collections across utility pilots and deployments, including work with PG&E and other top-tier utilities, covering terrain that ranges from suburban sidewalks to remote, steep, and densely vegetated landscapes in variable climates
  • Carry and operate a 11-lb backpack sensor system on foot for multiple miles off-trail, as well as collect data from vehicles on unpaved roads, utility rights-of-way, and remote sites
  • Act as a critical feedback loop between the field and internal teams, regularly syncing with Deployment, Product, and Engineering to surface insights, flag issues, and help shape how Treeswift's technology and operations evolve.
  • Operate and troubleshoot Treeswift's field equipment including LiDAR, cameras, and sensors, making sure every collection meets our quality and completeness standards
  • Own the logistics that make deployments happen, from equipment and shipping coordination to site routing and daily route planning
  • Serve as the customer face on the ground, ensuring data is collected properly, and communicating what's actually happening in the field back to the team
  • Train customer users on data collection systems and provide hands-on support when needed
  • Spot and flag process gaps, equipment issues, and edge cases in the field, feeding those insights back into how Treeswift improves its technology and operations

Who You Are:
  • You have 2-4+ years of experience in fieldwork, operations, or logistics-intensive roles, ideally in professional environments with formal safety protocols and team-based operations such as NPS, BLM, USFS, AmeriCorps, outdoor research, or the military
  • You are comfortable with 50-75% travel and capable of long days outdoors in variable weather conditions, including early starts and remote locations
  • You are a strong cross-functional communicator who can translate what's happening in the field into clear, actionable insights for internal teams and manage expectations with a customer
  • You hold a valid driver's license and are confident navigating remote areas, unpaved roads, and utility corridors in a vehicle
  • You are a natural relationship builder who can show up professionally with a utility executive one day and a field crew the next, and make both feel equally supported
  • You are highly organized and detail-oriented, able to juggle gear, files, field reports, and logistics across multiple active deployments without things slipping through the cracks
  • You thrive in autonomous environments where you are trusted to make good decisions on the ground without someone looking over your shoulder

Bonus Points For:
  • Experience with tree identification, wildfire mitigation, or GIS tools
  • Safety or medical certifications such as Wilderness First Responder or similar
  • Exposure to sensor-based data collection or high-tech field gear such as LiDAR, GPS, cameras, or drones

What we offer:
  • Treeswift Equity
  • Comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance
  • Unlimited vacation policy and company holidays
  • Life insurance - basic life, supplemental life, and dependent life.
  • Disability leave - short-term disability and long-term disability.
  • Company paid parental leave
  • Retirement savings - Traditional and Roth 401K plans
What We Value
  • Mission first. We value team members who are focused on working towards the best outcomes for the customer and the business.
  • Curiosity. We are constantly learning - from each other and from our customers.. We aren't afraid to learn we were wrong in the process and adapt our approach accordingly.
  • Owners mindset. If you see an opportunity for improvement, run with it. We believe that good ideas can come from anywhere, no matter your role.

The estimated salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 USD. Final compensation is determined by skills, experience, qualifications, and location, and does not include the value of any bonuses, benefits, or long-term incentives.
