Job Overview:APTIM is seeking a mid-level Field Engineer to support design-build construction projects at the Alabama Port Authority in Mobile, Alabama. This is a field position to provide engineering oversight and quality control for medium- to large-scale maintenance activities and capital projects in support of terminal operations at the port. The primary terminal is McDuffie Coal Terminal which includes railcar and barge coal receiving, material transfer and staging, and ship loading. Strong interpersonal skills are required, including the ability to communicate clearly and confidently, both written and verbally, to all project team members including client representatives and APTIM colleagues alike.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:- Provide level of effort estimates for schedule and cost of construction activities and engineering oversight.
- Responsible for collaboration with the Designer of Record on the interpretation of design elements to address field conditions and construction related issues that may impact project execution.
- Provide support for development of project execution plans, risk and contingency assessment, and preliminary planning for field activities.
- Responsible for the implementation and documentation of the three-phase inspection process that helps ensure the project is constructed with the approved materials in accordance with the approved design.
- Complete Daily Quality Control Reports documenting ongoing inspection activities.
- Manage record drawings and specifications to track changes and support development of as-built drawings.
- Manage equipment and material receipt and confirms conformance to drawings and specifications.
- Maintain frequent and consistent verbal and written communication with contractors, suppliers, vendors, project engineers, and project management on the status of the project.
- Identify requirements, requests, conflicts, non-conformances, and changes and liaisons with the engineering and management team.
Basic Qualifications:- Requires Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited program. Mechanical, Civil, or Structural fields preferred.
- 5-10 years relevant experience
- USACE CQM Certification, a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft suite
- Ability to quickly acquire a working knowledge of project-specific standards, procedures, and correspondence
- Well organized and confident in communicating to field and office team
- Possess the experience and knowledge to support scope of work development, schedules, and budgetary cost estimating.
- Ability to acquire Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) and Alabama Port
As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $102-120K per year and depends on several factors including: experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
