Job Title: Field Application Engineer (FAE)

Job Description:

Our Cloud & Networking Platform is looking for a Field Applications Engineer (FAE) to join a global team of multi-disciplined technical experts, working alongside Product Line Management, Sales, and R&D to engage customers across our product portfolio, and help develop and drive design-ins.

In this role, the FAE will report to the Senior Director of Sales and serve as an integral part of the sales and marketing team, working closely with sales, PLM, Product Development, and key customers and to encourage and support adoption of Lumentum's Cloud Modules and components into Datacenters and GPU Clusters.

Job Duties:

Primarily provides pre-sales technical support for the development and implementation of complex products/applications/solutions. Uses in-depth product knowledge to provide technical expertise to sales staff and the customer through sales presentations and product demonstrations. Grows technical relationship with customer. Assists the sales staff in assessing potential application of company products to meet customer needs and may prepare detailed product specifications for the development and implementation of customer products/applications/solutions. May create detailed design and implementation specifications for complex products/applications/solutions. May build a mini application based on customer requirements to demonstrate feasibility of the application, often requiring rapid prototyping and/or product demo for client. May provide consultation to prospective users and/or product capability assessment and validation

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Negotiate technical specifications and performance trade-offs with customers that will satisfy their system and module needs; promoting Lumentum product preferences at targeted customers.
  • Participate in customer design reviews and contribute to the technical response to RFI/RFQs.
  • Work closely with sales and directly with customers to collect customer's requirement and application use cases.
  • Work directly with targeted customers to bring up transceiver modules at customer sites, troubleshoot customer prototypes, and develop solutions that support end-user applications, resulting in successful design-in of our products.
  • Develop and manage primary customer product documentation which can include corrective actions, analysis reports, manufacturing test plans, performance improvement plans, reliability qualification plans and reports.
  • Manage Product Change Notification process (PCN) with customers and engineering
  • Participation in critical Failure Analysis, Corrective Action & Lessons Learned activities


ESSENTIAL REQUIRMENTS:

This individual must be motivated and should enjoy working in an open, rapidly changing, communicative and team-oriented environment. A hands-on, "can-do" attitude, a commitment to excellence, plus the ability to anticipate change and try new approaches and create innovative solutions under pressure
  • Degree in the physical sciences, electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years engineering experience designing/developing or testing coherent optical modules and components, preferably active products, and specifically DSPs, receivers, modulators and lasers
  • Direct experience in product development and NPI processes with either an optical components/modules company or a system OEM.
  • Practical working knowledge of transceiver hardware including both specification and test of firmware/hardware interfaces.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Familiarity with device firmware structure & functionality is a strong positive.
  • Familiar with standards documents like CMIS, C-CMIS, Ethernet, Infiniband
  • Familiar with popular switch/router platforms and ONTs including Arista, Cisco, and Nvidia
  • Familiar with Python
  • Ability to speak/understand English is required; written skills emphasized


Pay Range:
P80-USA-1 :$149,900.00 - $214,150.00
