Buck's Communications is hiring experienced Fiber Optic Installation & Repair Technicians (FTTH) to support one of the nation's fastest-growing fiber internet providers throughout Berkeley County and surrounding South Carolina markets.

We're seeking dependable technicians with experience installing, activating, troubleshooting, and repairing Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) internet services. If you have experience with fiber splicing, ONT installation, residential networking, broadband installation, or telecommunications service work, we want to hear from you.

Position Responsibilities

As an Independent FTTH Installation & Repair Technician, you will provide residential fiber installation, activation, maintenance, and repair services while representing Buck's Communications and our client with professionalism and exceptional customer service.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Complete aerial or underground drop work when required
  • Install Network Interface Devices (NIDs) or house boxes
  • Splice/terminate, clean, test and verify fiber optic connections
  • Use light meters, VFLs, and other diagnostic equipment
  • Install and provision Optical Network Terminals (ONTs)
  • Install inside wiring by poke through, wall fish or crawl fish
  • Connect customer-owned networking equipment
  • Troubleshoot fiber and customer equipment issues
  • Educate customers on their new fiber internet service and equipment
  • Provide outstanding customer service during every visit
  • Complete work safely while following client standards and company procedures
  • Document completed work using required mobile applications

Technician Qualifications

Qualified technicians should possess:
  • FTTH installation and troubleshooting experience
  • Fiber splicing / termination experience
  • Knowledge of ONTs, Wi-Fi routers, and residential networking
  • Experience working with aerial and underground drops
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Mechanical aptitude and technical troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to work in attics, crawl spaces, and on ladders
  • Ability to lift and carry 60 pound ladders, tools, and materials
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to pass required background screening and drug testing
  • Professional appearance and commitment to customer satisfaction
  • Reliable transportation to assigned work areas


Vehicle & Equipment Requirements

Technicians are responsible for supplying and maintaining their own professional work vehicle, tools, equipment, insurance, and operating expenses.

Vehicle Requirements
  • White work van or truck with ladder rack preferred
  • Clean, organized, customer-presentable vehicle

• Must be dependable and well maintained

Required Equipment
  • 28-foot extension ladder with cable hooks
  • Fusion splicer
  • Optical Light Meter
  • Visual Fault Locator (VFL)
  • Standard FTTH hand tools

• Steel or Composite toe / shank, 7" lace-up boots with 1" heel
  • Smartphone or tablet capable of running required work applications
