Title: Federal Retirement and Benefits Specialist

Location: Washington D.C. (On-site Position)

We are seeking a passionate Federal Retirement and Benefits Specialist with experience in federal retirement processing, who thrives in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Position Overview:

The Federal Retirement and Benefits Specialist is responsible for a wide range of duties related to retirement and benefits administration. This includes applying in-depth knowledge of CSRS, CSRS Offset/FERS Handbooks, and OPM BALs; conducting eOPF audits; validating primary and secondary special coverage positions; verifying retirement service computation dates and 6C coverage; researching civilian and military deposits and redeposits; and preparing military deposit packets. The Specialist will also input service, salary, and earnings data into the GRB calculator, generate and complete required forms, provide employee counseling, perform FEGLI corrections, and maintain tracking spreadsheets.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct eOPF reviews and service audits for assigned cases
  • Review position descriptions to identify primary or secondary special retirement coverage; verify coverage and complete OPM RI 20-124
  • Build service, salary, and earnings history into GRB; verify retirement SCDs, generate retirement estimates, and complete retirement packets
  • Research and prepare military deposit packets, including counseling and submission
  • Research civilian and military deposits, redeposits, and refunds
  • Initiate FEGLI corrections and SPPS billing
  • Maintain and update case tracking spreadsheets
  • Apply knowledge of FEHB continuation rules
  • Apply knowledge of FEGLI continuation rules
  • Utilize EmpowHR for retirement processing

  • Provide retirement counseling and retirement eligibility determinations for employees covered under FERS, CSRS, CSRS Offset, and Special Retirement Provisions.
  • Prepare, review, and certify retirement applications (SF-2801/SF-3107) for submission to OPM.
  • Utilize GRB, eOPF, NFC, EmpowHR, and OPM ORA systems to process retirement actions and maintain retirement records.
  • Calculate creditable civilian and military service, sick leave conversions, deposits, and redeposits impacting retirement eligibility and annuity computations. Coordinate with OPM, NFC, payroll offices, and agency stakeholders to resolve retirement case issues and ensure timely adjudication.


Required Education and Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience as a Federal Retirement and Benefits Specialist (with a federal agency or contractor)
  • 2-3 years of experience preparing and processing SWE forms (RI 20-124), in addition to basic CSRS/FERS service histories
  • Proficient in following agency SOPs, using standardized tracking methods, interpreting CSRS/FERS handbooks, and applying OPM BAL guidance
  • Strong auditing skills and attention to detail when verifying eOPF records, inputting GRB data, reviewing PDs, and confirming retirement eligibility and 6C SCDs
  • Prior remote work experience preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and remote desktop sharing

Preferred Education:
  • Bachelor's degree
