Position Description

Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a Physician.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Clinical Assessment, Diagnosis & Patient Care - Performs comprehensive patient evaluations, diagnoses conditions, develops treatment plans, and provides ongoing outpatient medical care.
  • Diagnostic Testing & Medication Management - Orders and interprets diagnostic tests, prescribes and manages medications, and applies evidence-based clinical judgment to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Care Coordination & Interdisciplinary Collaboration - Collaborates with healthcare teams, coordinates referrals, consultations, discharge planning, and follow-up care to ensure continuity of patient-centered care.
  • Emergency Response & Clinical Consultation - Responds to medical emergencies and provides timely consultation to support patient stabilization and appropriate levels of care.
  • Documentation, Compliance & Quality Improvement - Maintains accurate and compliant electronic medical records, adheres to regulatory and safety standards, and participates in quality improvement initiatives while demonstrating professionalism and ethical practice.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience evaluating and managing patients, including chronic medical conditions and medical emergencies.
  • Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and knowledge of medications and associated complications.
  • Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams while working independently.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) documentation, regulatory compliance, and outpatient safety standards.
  • Knowledge of culturally competent, patient-centered care and quality improvement principles.


Pay Statement

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan website at https://app4.ttuhsc.edu/payplan.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.

Visa Information

TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.
