About the RoleTechnical & Engineering Consulting is seeking an experienced
Facilities Engineer Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a major pharmaceutical capital project in
Carolina, Puerto Rico.
The Facilities Engineer SME will provide technical leadership and engineering expertise for the design, modification, and integration of pharmaceutical facilities and supporting infrastructure. The role will support multidisciplinary facility design activities involving
HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, structural systems, CAD/BIM, and facility layouts.
The selected professional will serve as a technical authority for facility design matters, lead design reviews and technical assessments, and collaborate with Engineering, project teams, EPC contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure designs meet project requirements, applicable codes, safety expectations, and pharmaceutical industry standards.
Key Responsibilities- Support the development of facility layouts, schematics, and engineering design documentation using CAD/BIM tools.
- Support the design and specification of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire safety, and structural systems.
- Lead design reviews, technical studies, and feasibility assessments for new or modified facilities.
- Provide SME-level technical guidance regarding design decisions, equipment selection, and system integration.
- Serve as a technical authority and point of escalation for facility design issues.
- Manage engineering design deliverables, schedules, and budgets across multidisciplinary project teams.
- Coordinate technical interfaces between different engineering disciplines and project stakeholders.
- Ensure facility designs comply with applicable local, state, and federal building codes, safety requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Develop and maintain facility design standards, engineering guidelines, and best-practice documentation.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, EPC organizations, and internal stakeholders to resolve technical and design issues.
- Support procurement and EPC contractors through technical clarifications and design reviews.
- Integrate safety protocols, OSHA requirements, and risk mitigation into all phases of facility design.
- Support compliance with applicable NFPA standards and building codes.
- Drive energy-efficiency and sustainability initiatives, including support for LEED certification, as applicable.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide specialized technical support to cross-functional teams.
- Contribute to lessons-learned initiatives and continuous improvement of engineering and facility-design practices.
- Support multiple projects and engineering priorities while maintaining schedule, quality, and technical requirements.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline.
- 10+ years of relevant facilities design experience, preferably supporting pharmaceutical or other highly regulated manufacturing facilities.
- Demonstrated experience with multidisciplinary facility design and engineering.
- Strong understanding of applicable building codes, OSHA requirements, NFPA standards, safety requirements, and engineering regulations.
- Experience supporting or coordinating engineering design reviews and technical assessments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Master's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Project Management, or related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) credential.
- LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) certification.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Previous design experience with an Architecture/Engineering (A/E) firm.
- Pharmaceutical facilities design experience.
- Experience with OSD (Oral Solid Dosage) and API operations and processes.
- Experience with project management and engineering budgets.
- Experience with CMMS platforms.
- Strong technical writing and engineering report-preparation skills.
