Full Job Description
What You'll Be Doing:

As Executive Director , Trading Credit Risk, you will be a senior member of the US Capital Markets Risk Management team, reporting to the Vice-President, Capital Markets Risk Management, US Region. You will manage and adjudicate an NBFI portfolio, focusing on credit risk from trading and financing activities involving hedge funds, private capital firms, and institutional asset managers.

You will lead a team of credit risk analysts and foster a strong culture of professionalism, collaboration, and teamwork.

You will collaborate closely with business partners to understand, assess, and monitor risk while ensuring compliance with CIBC policies and maintaining a prudent risk profile.

CIBC offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement designed to help you thrive, with three to four days per week on-site and the remaining days remote.

How You'll Succeed:
  • Collaborate - Develop strong relationships and work collaboratively with line of business partners.
  • Knowledge - Develop a high level of knowledge of industry sectors or business lines covered, and provide advice to executives on relevant matters.
  • Meetings - Attend client meetings with front-line relationship managers as appropriate.
  • Advise - Provide constructive advice and guidance to relationship managers on credit transactions, within CIBC's credit policies and guidelines and CIBC's risk appetite.
  • Compliance - Demonstrate a keen understanding of current and developing regulatory issues, as well as CIBC credit policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Risk Management - Effectively utilize CIBC risk rating methodologies to ensure an objective and accurate assessment of risk in credit transactions.
  • Consult - Provide consulting and assistance as a subject matter expert to influence the development, implementation and management of policies and programs related to the sector(s) covered.


Who You Are:
  • A seasoned credit professional with deep counterparty credit expertise across alternative investment sectors, including hedge funds, private capital firms, and institutional asset managers.
  • Strong judgment in assessing counterparty credit matters, supported by broad product knowledge and the ability to evaluate a wide range of business requests.
  • Demonstrated expertise in alternative investment sectors, with particular focus on hedge funds, private capital, and institutional asset managers.
  • Strong knowledge of middle market lending, CLOs, and commercial real estate warehouse financing.
  • Familiarity with methodologies used to quantify and analyze market and credit risk, including strong knowledge of OTC derivatives across foreign exchange, interest rates, equities, and commodities.
  • Ability to review and approve credit-related provisions in trading documentation, including ISDA, GMRA, prime brokerage, and structured financing agreements.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear analysis and explain business initiatives in concise, accessible language.
  • Ability to operate effectively within a matrixed management environment.
  • Knowledge of trading floor activities, trade support, and operations, with the ability to adapt effectively to changing business needs.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure and time constraints, including directing team members and managing shifting or competing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across business, control, and support functions.
  • Demonstrated professional integrity and a collaborative, team-oriented approach to risk management.
  • Minimum of 10 years of credit experience in a banking, broker-dealer, or related financial services environment.
  • Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA or equivalent experience preferred.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $225,000 - $275,000 for the New York, NY market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit's incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
