Job Summary

Provides executive leadership and strategic direction for physician services and employed medical group operations across assigned facilities, markets, and service lines. Accountable for translating organizational strategy into sustainable practice growth, operational excellence, financial performance, provider engagement, and an exceptional patient experience. Partners with hospital, clinical, finance, revenue cycle, human resources, compliance, and business development leaders to strengthen physician alignment; optimize access, quality, productivity, and resource utilization; and ensure physician practices operate in accordance with organizational standards and applicable regulatory requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Establishes and executes the strategic direction, operating model, annual goals, and performance standards for physician services across assigned facilities, markets, and service lines.
  • Provides executive oversight of physician practice operations, including access, scheduling, staffing, patient flow, clinical support services, information systems, and service recovery; standardizes effective practices across locations.
  • Directs financial planning and performance for the physician enterprise, including budgets, forecasts, productivity, labor, revenue cycle, fee schedules, capital priorities, and corrective action to achieve sustainable results.
  • Develops growth strategies and business plans for new providers, specialties, services, and practice locations; evaluates market demand, capacity, referral patterns, pro formas, and strategic alignment.
  • Leads or supports physician recruitment, onboarding, integration, retention, succession planning, and practice transitions in partnership with medical staff, recruitment, human resources, and operational leaders.
  • Builds effective relationships with physicians and advanced practice providers; facilitates communication, addresses operational barriers, and aligns provider goals with hospital and enterprise priorities.
  • Establishes a performance management framework using financial, quality, access, productivity, patient experience, and workforce measures; interprets data and directs improvement plans.
  • Ensures effective physician utilization, compensation administration, and contract-operating practices within delegated authority, partnering with legal, compliance, finance, and managed care resources as appropriate.
  • Advances quality, safety, patient experience, and clinical integration initiatives in collaboration with clinical leaders; ensures operational processes support evidence-based care and organizational standards.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state requirements, payer obligations, billing and coding standards, privacy requirements, organizational policies, and audit or corrective-action plans.
  • Develops an effective leadership structure and high-performing team; selects, coaches, evaluates, and develops leaders while promoting accountability, engagement, collaboration, and succession readiness.
  • Serves as the physician-services representative in enterprise, division, market, and facility planning; advises senior leadership regarding risks, opportunities, investments, and operational priorities.
  • Leads complex initiatives, practice acquisitions or integrations, and change-management efforts; coordinates stakeholders, resources, timelines, communication, and post-implementation performance.
  • Cultivates productive relationships with payers, employers, community partners, vendors, and other stakeholders to support network development, managed care objectives, and market growth.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • Advanced knowledge of physician practice operations, medical group administration, healthcare delivery systems, and provider workflows.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, productivity analysis, revenue cycle, and business-plan development.
  • Ability to develop strategy and translate it into measurable operating priorities across diverse facilities, markets, and stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated leadership, talent development, organizational design, and change-management capabilities.
  • Ability to build credibility and collaborative relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, executives, and operational partners.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory, billing, coding, privacy, compliance, and payer requirements relevant to physician practices.
