Role Description

The Enterprise Risk Management is seeking an Executive Director to provide enterprise-wide leadership for stress testing for the SMBC Americas Division, including the development, governance, and execution of enterprise stress tests and the build-out and ongoing management of a CCAR program from a Risk perspective. The role ensures that stress testing methodologies, assumptions, and governance processes support effective capital adequacy assessment, risk appetite and strategic decision-making, in alignment with U.S. regulatory expectations and SMBC Group standards.
The role will report to the Head of Stress Testing & Scenario Design and will manage a small team.

Role Responsibilities:
• Lead the design, governance, and execution of enterprise-wide stress testing covering credit, market, liquidity, operational, and non-financial risks.
• Build, implement, and oversee a CCAR Risk program, including stress testing governance, documentation, challenge processes - working actively with Risk Stripes, Finance and Front Office to deploy the program across the businesses.
• Establish and maintain stress testing policies, standards, and procedures aligned with SMBC Group frameworks and U.S. regulatory guidance.
• Provide independent second-line challenge of stress testing assumptions, methodologies, overlays, and results produced by first-line and Finance partners.
• Aggregate enterprise stress testing outputs to form an independent Risk view for senior management and Board oversight.
• Ensure effective integration of stress testing results into capital planning, risk appetite, recovery and resolution planning, and strategic decision-making.
• Coordinate closely with Finance, Treasury, Model Risk Management, Credit Risk, Market Risk, Liquidity Risk, and Regulatory Relations to ensure end-to-end process integrity.
• Drive ongoing enhancement of stress testing capabilities in response to regulatory developments, internal reviews, and evolving risk exposures.
• Engage with global SMBC Group risk counterparts globally to ensure alignment and utilization of best practices - with specific attention to alignment with EMEA during the 2026-28 timeframe.

Qualifications and Skills
• 12+ years of experience leading stress testing / CCAR initiatives in large and complex banking organization, ideally in a Category 3 bank or GSIB; hands on experience building out an enterprise stress testing/CCAR program preferred
• Deep expertise in enterprise stress testing, CCAR and capital adequacy frameworks for large banking organizations;
• Strong understanding of U.S. regulatory expectations, including Federal Reserve CCAR and capital planning guidance (SR 12-7/ 15-19), and related supervisory stress testing standards.
• Broad knowledge of financial risk types and how stress scenarios transmit across trading and lending portfolios and balance sheets.
• Ongoing awareness of regulatory priorities, model risk considerations, and industry stress testing practices.
• Experience interacting with and managing regulatory expectations with respect to CCAR submissions; experience closing regulatory findings around CCAR is highly desirable
• Exceptional ability to communicate complex stress testing outcomes and limitations to senior management, Boards, and regulators.
• Self-starter and ability to forge strong relationships with business partners including Risk Stripes, Finance and Front Office
• Gravitas to lead challenging and strategic discussions with business partners, especially Front Office traders and bankers
