About the Role:

As Executive Director, Consulting Solutions, you will serve as the primary architect of customer success for the Dow Jones Energy consulting business, dedicated to building, nurturing, and expanding long-term relationships with both new and existing customers through delivery of complex bespoke solutions. You will proactively scout for areas of market growth and identify opportunities for repeatable projects that create foundational revenue streams. 

Alongside these client-facing responsibilities, you will lead the end-to-end delivery of consulting engagements by managing pipeline development, forecasting resource needs, and monitoring consultant capacity. By serving as the strategic bridge between Business Development and delivery, you will ensure that qualified leads are efficiently converted into revenue-generating, high-margin wins. You will report to the SVP - Head of Research. 

You Will:
  • Oversee global consulting operations -  rigorously managing project revenue backlog, sales pipelines, and resource allocation to maximize business unit and project profitability

  • Spearhead comprehensive Go-To-Market strategies, marketing campaigns, and sales enablement initiatives to expand market share across a diverse portfolio of consulting solutions

  • Liaise with and coach business development leads with pipeline creation and management

  • Proactively identify untapped market opportunities, proposing innovative consulting service offerings to expand the practice for incremental revenue

  • Interface with global industry organizations to build and nourish relationships with key industry contacts

  • Ensure pipeline building, RFP submissions, and project delivery accountable in order to meet contractual timelines and fiscal revenue budgets 

  • Own the Consulting pipeline and work-in-progress queue, including robust tracking and reporting to allow cross-vertical awareness

  • Build and maintain competitive labor rate matrices and pricing models that balance deal profitability with market competitiveness

  • Manage appropriate levels of staffing for maximizing utilization rates on external projects, which may include hiring additional resources and supplementing work-in-progress with internal projects when capacity is available or prioritized

  • Design, utilize, and maintain a consulting skill proficiency matrix for consulting workforce, upskilling in order to maintain skill proficiency and redundancy

  • Establish key strategic alliances to scale the company’s commercial footprint and create high-yield business development multipliers

  • Drive continuous innovation by market-testing and launching new offerings tailored to specific buyer personas, workflows, and high-growth end-markets

  • Partner with cross-functional Dow Jones business lines to co-develop integrated, high-value solutions that deepen client relationships across diverse sectors

You Have:
  • 20+ years of proven track record in Consulting setting, responsible principal of meeting revenue plans, developing pipeline, managing delivery, workforce planning, optimizing billable utilization rates, managing staff benchmarking/skill proficiency matrices, and balancing active work with bench time 

  • Broad knowledge of the chemical and energy industries

  • Deep understanding of the enterprise buying center and decision-making personas (e.g., C-suite, Procurement, IT, end-users), with a proven track record of mapping organizational hierarchies and tailoring value propositions to distinct executive priorities

  • Natural relationship-building skills and ability to effectively coach Business Development leads, align cross-vertical stakeholders, and foster a culture of continuous team upskilling, collaboration and innovation

  • Demonstrated experience representing a trusted, valued brand with customers, prospects, and at global industry events to build high-value executive networks

  • Proven track record in workforce and resource planning, optimizing billable utilization rates, managing staff benchmarking/skill proficiency matrices, and balancing active work with bench time

  • Proven track record for writing, negotiating and performing detailed consulting agreements and partnership agreements

  • Ability to think through questions and/or problems and independently provide solutions

  • Incredible attention to detail and record keeping, especially documentation of technical research approaches, model design and design/development of new intellectual property 

  • Dedication to data-driven decision-making, using metrics, dashboards, and structured frameworks to manage capacity, pipeline visibility, and utilization 

  • Experience developing labor rate matrices, margin-focused pricing models, and RFP submission processes that balance win rates with deal profitability

  • Willingness to travel 25% of the time in all regions (Americas, Europe, Middle-East/Africa, Asia)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Business (preferred) -OR- Graduate degree -OR- equivalent work experience

Base Pay Range: $215,000 - $265,000

We’re committed to offering competitive and flexible compensation to attract top talent. This pay range reflects our good faith estimate for the role and may vary based on a candidate’s experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors.

For bonus-eligible roles, targets are determined based on multiple considerations, including market benchmarks and individual contributions.
