Overview:

The Estimating Manager regularly engages in Senior Estimator duties, in addition this manager is engaged in all estimating reviews. The Estimating Manager assists the Director of Estimating with narratives and other documentation on RFP Responses. Often engaged in committees and process improvement task forces. Leads the development of the Standard of Procedures for the commercial estimating department. Coordinates and oversees the estimating training program and assists with estimating training. In addition, this individual mentors other estimators of all levels.

Essential Functions:

1. Bid Preparation:65%
  • Reviews bid documents to accurately quantify and estimate costs of all electrical items provided in the bid package as well as reviews the work of others.
  • Attends all internal pre-bid review meetings to give input from a strategic standpoint.
  • Prepares the bills of material for quotations as needed.
  • Identifies and implements labor unit and material pricing adjustments based on installation conditions.
  • Creates project budgets on large and / or complex projects.
  • Manages and participates in alternate delivery style projects (Design/Assist & CMAR) and regularly engages with associated clients.
  • Assembles and reviews the bid qualifications to satisfy the Request for Proposal (RFP).
  • Identifies project bid selection and award impacts (schedule, workforce, equipment).
  • Assembles a final draft of the estimate for presentation to the customer and consults with the Director of Estimating for final approval.
  • Often leads the estimating team on complex projects and leads or assists the Senior Estimators on larger projects.

2. Team Leadership: 20%
  • Oversees and supports the estimating team to ensure their job responsibilities are fulfilled.
  • Develops and maintains estimating tools (Accubid & ConEst Databases and Excel tools) and partakes in estimating training.
  • Participates in the continued development of the Senior Estimator as well as the development of the level I and II Estimators.
  • Assists with the decisions on the hiring and termination of Estimators.
  • Leads the Estimating team, as well as the duties, in the absence of the Director of Estimating.
  • Regularly discusses and develops estimating methods with the PACK team in a continuous improvement effort and leads cost study efforts.
  • Manages the estimating needs that often require working inside and outside of normal business hours.

3. Business Development: 10%

4. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Estimating. 5%

Education and Experience:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 10+ years of commercial estimating experience required, or in combination with project management experience.
  • Three years of experience managing or supervising a team required.
  • A thorough understanding of the local/regional bidding market is required.
  • A thorough understanding of either electrical distribution and motor controls OR electrical distribution, branch, and lighting systems is required.
  • Field experience as a licensed journeyman or associate degree in electrical engineering or a related field is preferred.

Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Able to read and understand plans and specifications, including blueprints, proposals, and other electrical work documents.
  • Proficient with Accubid, ConEst, or equivalent estimating software.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or other related software.
  • Familiarity with bid invitation platforms and processes.
  • Familiar with reviewing and producing project schedules related to a proposal.

Work Environment:
  • Office environment with some local travel required.
  • Available to work inside and outside of normal business hours when needed for a project bid.
  • Ability to work from home with efficiency equal to the standard office environment.

Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting/standing at a desk while working on a computer.
  • Must be able to walk job sites and attend pre-bid meetings as needed.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds.
