The Services EPM Field Application Engineer for ABB will provide technical support to the Core Commercial Solutions team in the development of field services proposals for power delivery, power utilization and automation equipment and systems. In this role you will identify and propose value-added service solutions targeting commercial and light industrial market segments with an emphasis on multi-site / enterprise customers. Specific solutions include maintenance programs, Power Distribution upgrades / additions, Relay upgrades, and Arc Flash Mitigation Solutions. In this fast paced, customer facing role, you will require strong field service technical skills and highly effective communication skills. The successful candidate will work closely with both the sales team and operations to ensure we are delivering engineered solutions that are technically compliant and commercially viable.

The expected travel for this role is 50% regionally.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities to maintain and grow the sales pipeline.
  • Develop technical solutions to meet customer business needs.
  • Communicate requirements for order fulfillment to sourcing and operations.
  • Document competitors' activities and assess potential market moves.
  • Review and influence customer specifications to assure compliance and/or noted exceptions for development of equipment and service quotations.
  • Make technical presentations to all levels of customer organization.
  • Support development of engineering and installation work scopes, schedules and cost estimates to facilitate total scope project offerings.
  • Put together quality and timely technical scope / solution / customer benefits that can be incorporated into proposal documents.
  • Be responsible for technical leadership on all Field Service proposals, including identifying on-site material and labor requirements, job-site walks, customer bid reviews, specification reviews and competitive analysis.
  • Provide input for NPI (New Product Introduction) programs and introduce new services / products to sales / service teams and clients.
  • Contribute positively to regional sales, orders, profitability, and ITO (Inquiry TO Order) quality goals.
  • Take lead role in the hand off process of new orders to operations for execution of the work scope.
  • Support operations when necessary on post order technical needs and development of change order scopes and proposals
  • Offering technical advice and providing comment on enquiry specifications for customers/channels/Sales Engineers regarding ABB's products/systems/applications.
  • Overseeing and leading the analytics and diagnostic studies to determine the most suitable technical solution to meet the customer needs.
  • Proposing the most suitable technical solutions for complex enquiries.
  • Preparing and delivering technical presentations and demonstrations on complex product issues, to both internal staff and customers.


Your Background:
  • Ability and willingness to travel 50% of the time within region.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university OR a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 10 years of experience with the application of Power Distribution upgrades, Relay upgrades, and Arc Flash Mitigation Solutions.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in application engineering or field engineering in power delivery products and systems including a minimum of 5 years of experience working with customers in the oil & gas, metals, mining, paper, power generation, data center, commercial building or similar business segments.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • Prior experience working with electrical contractors and/or understanding electrical contractor costing methodology.
  • Prior experience with customer specifications review, proposal development, and contract development and negotiations.
  • Prior experience in developing and writing specifications and proposals.
  • Ability to bring an innovative approach to complicated problem solving.
  • Strong customer mindset.

Time off

ABB provides 11 paid holidays. Vacation is provided based on years of service for hourly and non-exempt positions. Salaried exempt positions are provided vacation under a permissive time away policy.

While base salary is determined by things such as the successful applicant's qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $83,300 and $133,280 annually and is bonus eligible.
