Job Description

In Countermeasure & Electromagnetic Attack Solutions (CEMA), we provide next-generation threat detection and countermeasure solutions to provide unparalleled electronic warfare capabilities to enhance mission survivability.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Pointing & Tracking Systems Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and test precision pointing and tracking systems. The engineer will work across controls, estimation, sensing, software, electro-optical and electromechanical systems to achieve accurate and stable pointing and tracking of dynamic targets.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience developing closed-loop tracking systems and is comfortable taking systems from requirements and modeling through integration, test, and operational deployment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement pointing, tracking, and stabilization algorithms.
  • Design closed-loop control systems for precision pointing mechanisms and platforms.
  • Develop target acquisition, tracking, and pointing solutions using sensor measurements.
  • Perform system modeling, simulation, analysis, and performance prediction.
  • Develop and tune control loops, filters, estimators, and tracking algorithms.
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, motion-control hardware, and embedded software systems.
  • Analyze pointing accuracy, tracking error, stability, latency, jitter and system dynamics.
  • Develop test plans and procedures and support hardware-in-the-loop, laboratory, and field testing.

Required Skills and Education

  • B.S. degree in a STEM field in addition to 15+ years of experience with pointing, tracking, guidance, navigation, controls, gimbals, stabilized platforms or related systems.
  • Strong understanding of control-systems fundamentals, including feedback control, stability, frequency response and dynamic modeling.
  • Experience leading a team of systems or EO/IR engineers.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or comparable tools.
  • Experience analyzing real-world sensors and actuator data.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex multidisciplinary systems.
  • Possess an active Secret security clearance (with ability to possess a Top-Secret clearance in the future)

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Experience with gimbaled or stabilized electro-optical systems.
  • Experience with Kalman filtering, inertial navigation, target tracking or multi-sensor fusion.
  • Familiarity with coordinate transformations, attitude representations, and kinematics.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop or real-time simulation.
  • Experience taking a pointing/tracking system through integration and environmental or field testing.
  • CAM/EV integrated product team lead experience.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience directing and mentoring engineers on complex programs.
  • Expert in effectively documenting, communicating, leading and working with a team on designs, results, reports, and presentations.
  • Experience performing systems engineering activities across the development cycle (analysis/decomposition/derivation/allocation of requirements, system modeling & simulation, system design & development, system integration & test)
  • Experience developing viable concept solutions, identifying and tracking technical risks, and leading technical teams
  • Model based systems engineering experience with tools such as Magic Draw.
  • Familiarity or experience with Agile Systems Engineering
  • Active Top Secret (TS) or TS/SCI security clearance

Success in This Role:
Within a short period of time, the successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Understand the system architecture, pointing/tracking requirements, and key performance drivers.
  • Own significant portions of the pointing and tracking design.
  • Develop and validate models and algorithms against test data.
  • Improve pointing and tracking performance through analysis and closed-loop tuning.
  • Lead integration and troubleshooting of assigned subsystems.
  • Establish repeatable test and verification methods for system performance.
