Michael Baker International is seeking an experienced Environmental Specialist to join our Great Lakes Region team based in Moon Township, PA. In this role, you will lead environmental field investigations and support a diverse portfolio of infrastructure, transportation, land development, and restoration projects throughout the region.
Projects are located across Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky, providing opportunities to work in a variety of environmental settings and regulatory environments.
The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in wetland and stream assessments, ecological field studies, environmental permitting, and regulatory compliance, along with a passion for delivering high-quality technical solutions that support critical infrastructure projects.
This position is a Hybrid office and field role that includes moderate day and overnight travel. Candidates must reside within driving distance of Moon Township, PA. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO SPONSOR OR TAKE OVER SPONSORSHIP OF AN EMPLOYMENT VISA FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY AT THIS TIME.What You'll Do: - Lead wetland delineations and watercourse assessments
- Conduct and oversee ecological surveys, including botanical studies, bridge bat assessments, and mitigation monitoring
- Prepare technical reports, environmental assessments, and mitigation monitoring documentation
- Develop permit applications and supporting documentation for Clean Water Act Sections 401 and 404
- Support Section 7 Endangered Species Act consultations and agency coordination
- Assist with NEPA documentation and environmental compliance activities
- Collaborate with engineers, GIS specialists, and environmental staff to deliver successful project outcomes
What You Need to Succeed: - Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Botany, Ecology, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience providing biological, ecological, permitting, and regulatory compliance support for infrastructure, development, restoration, and mitigation projects
- Demonstrated experience leading wetland delineations, stream assessments, and natural resource surveys
- Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations, including Section 7 ESA and Clean Water Act permitting
- Strong technical writing, communication, and project coordination skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of ArcGIS, GPS technology, and related geospatial tools
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout Michael Baker's Great Lakes Region to conduct field investigations, site assessments, and project-related activities
- Ability to perform fieldwork in remote and rugged terrain under a variety of weather and environmental conditions
- Preferred qualifications
- Wetland Professional in Training (WPIT), Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), or similar certification
- Experience supporting transportation or DOT projects
- Experience preparing NEPA documentation
Compensation:The approximate compensation range for this position $78,100 - $93,600 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
