Description

Weston is seeking a Project Scientist to support environmental investigations, hazardous waste site remediation, and emergency response projects that protect public health and the environment. This position combines field and office work and may include leading field assignments, collecting environmental samples, evaluating data, coordinating laboratory analysis, and preparing technical deliverables.

This position supports a critical project with work expected to begin soon. Weston is proactively interviewing to prepare for onboarding as project activities ramp up. Start timing will align with project kickoff and mobilization schedules.

Locations: Pittsburgh, PA

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with or lead environmental investigations, remediation activities, and emergency response assignments.
  • Collect and manage soil, water, air, waste, and other environmental samples.
  • Perform field screening and coordinate sample shipment and laboratory analysis.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain environmental monitoring and sampling equipment.
  • Evaluate analytical, monitoring, and field data to support project conclusions and recommendations.
  • Prepare field documentation, daily client reports, investigation and removal action reports, work plans, sampling plans, and other technical deliverables.
  • Coordinate with clients, laboratories, subcontractors, consultants, and project team members.
  • Perform assigned work in accordance with project scope, budget, schedule, quality requirements, and client expectations.
  • Use required PPE, including OSHA Levels D through A, when entering potentially hazardous areas.
  • Travel to project sites, including remote locations, for assignments of up to two weeks, sometimes at short notice.
  • Participate in an on-call emergency response rotation, typically one week per month or less, with 24/7 availability and readiness to mobilize for chemical and oil spill incidents.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in environmental science, Engineering, Physical Science, Life Science, or a related field.
  • Six to ten years of relevant experience in environmental investigations, remediation, or response operations.
  • Experience with environmental sampling, field assessments, laboratory coordination, data evaluation, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to organize, interpret, and communicate analytical, monitoring, and field data.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel, work in potentially hazardous environments, use required PPE and participate in the on-call rotation.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including field equipment and PPE.
  • Valid driver's license and authorization to work in the United States.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience planning or leading environmental site investigations involving potentially hazardous substances.
  • Experience interacting with clients and overseeing subcontractors.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, field work plans, health and safety plans, sampling plans, QAPPs, or UFP QAPPs.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.
  • Incident Command System training or emergency response experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.

Salary Range: $67,343 - $88,868 - $110,290
