OverviewThe Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Department manages a comprehensive safety program to support both research and clinical operations. The EH&S Specialist position performs daily activities required to fulfill the goals, work plans, initiatives, and duties of these EH&S programs at the direction of the EH&S Manager.

Responsibilities
- Conduct safety inspections, document, track, and escalate deficiencies as appropriate. Provide just-in-time education to operational leaders regarding safety concerns and necessary resolution.
- Develops and maintains written plans, procedures, and applicable training and presents reports to committees and workgroups on various EH&S topics.
- Conducts training sessions for general workforce members including, use of personal protective equipment, fire drills and emergency response, lab safety, construction safety protocol, and more.
- Conduct safety risk assessments across biosafety, industrial and chemical hygiene, hazardous materials, environment of care, and emergency preparedness programs. Responds to safety concerns or developing incidents with the potential to disrupt operations. Fulfills rotational on-call responsibilities.
- Support and oversee EH&S software systems and databases to ensure processes are followed and verify data is accurately maintained, including data correction, end user training, and system trouble shooting.
- Support the EH&S team at large in program management to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations across both research and clinical operations.
- This role may have varied responsibilities based on the specific specialty area and business needs.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA/BS in related field or 5 years similar experience may substitute.
- Two or more years experience supporting environmental, health, and safety programs in research, healthcare, or related field.
- Must possess good writing, analytical, verbal communication and computer skills.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must be able to wear a respirator and required personal protective equipment.
- Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds.
The annual base salary range for this position is from $80,172 to $114,941, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
