Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:

In this role, you will be responsible for promoting a safe, and environmentally compliant work environment for all employees throughout the manufacturing facility and to maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state local, and corporate environmental and safety laws.

Day to Day Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate and communicate Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) programs and policies.
  • Develop and work towards all required Corporate EHS policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Maintain SDS system and ensure new materials and products have appropriate SDS sheets and training.
  • Ensure any new chemical safety and environmental requirements are assessed and understood prior to bringing onsite.
  • Implement special project assignments related to facility and/or equipment layouts.
  • Ensure Material Handling programs are established and upheld.
  • Emergency Response programs and leadership.
  • Ergonomic evaluations and improvements.
  • Support ISO 14001/45001 program.
  • Manage hazardous waste, environmental permits, reduction of waste, and other environmental applicable programs.
  • Implement safety programs to develop an inter-dependent safety culture where everyone is watching out for everyone's safety.
  • Mentor and coach subject matter experts on their assigned safety programs.
  • Ensures effective development and delivery of all EHS related training and education programs and maintain EHS records.
  • Responds, in conjunction with supervisors/management, to EH&S emergencies, investigates accidents, participates along with other groups, and recommends corrective and preventive action.
  • Coordinates reporting, tracking, and trend analysis of EHS metrics.
  • Works with leadership to set annual targets for injury reduction and develop the Safety Annual Plan and drive necessary actions to meet or exceed targets.
  • Leads internal audits and ensure timely corrective action for discrepancies and work with internal and external groups to handle industrial and chemical hygiene, safety, health and environmental audits/ inspections.
  • Assist with the management of EHS data platforms.


Education and Experience: Required
  • Bachelor's degree in technical field, including but not limited to Engineering or Environmental Health and Safety.
  • Relevant experience in a safety role within a manufacturing or distribution environment; internship, co-op, and full-time experience are all valued.
  • Consistent track record on improving processes and working on teams to influence others.


Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:
  • Experience with ISO 14001/45001 program or similar preferred.

The range for this position is $74,756.00 - $102,790.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
